Many people claim that Paris is the fashion capital of the world. I will not contest that it might be the capital of the fashion industry, but there is absolutely no reason to believe that Parisians are more elegant and stylish than people in other places. In the center of Paris, one can see many superbly dressed people, for example in the 6th and 7th arrondissements, which are known for their high revenue and high end tourists. Even though my own arrondissement, the 18th, has a few extremely rich areas populated with media stars, it is also one of the cheapest arrondissements in Paris. What would be the real Paris then? Well, the population of the 6th arrondissement is 45,000. The population of the 7th arrondissement is 57,000. The population of the 18th arrondissement is 191,000. Therefore, I will no longer entertain the theory that the people of the 18th arrondissement are not the real Parisians compared to the ones in the center of Paris, and I invite you to take a look at how they are dressing in December 2009. There are numerous comment that can be made, but the only one that I will make for the moment after seeing these photos that I took from my window is the Parisians are not fond of the color green for their apparel.

The people of your arrondismont are dressed better than you would see on the streets of Tucson, or for that matter any U. S. airport I have flown in or out of. Every time we visit Paris where we have only stayed on the right bank; we always comment sadly when we arrive back that even the most casually dressed Parisians are better at it than what we see in the airports. For instance, I don't think I saw anyone with flip flops on; or torn clothing or baseball caps turned backwards or in the case of guys, pants down showing their underwear. Understandably, in warmer weather it would look different but I have been in Paris in both April and May and I still don't remember any shoddiness. So, I still say your daily dress whether you are in the 18th or the 1st, 6th or 7th you all do a much better job than what I have seen here in Tucson and other areas of the U. S. Sorry to say, most Americans have become so casual that in some cases it equates with slob.

Agreed, trav. I do see some encouraging flashes of style in the teenage generation here.
