So, Wednesday 9/23 dawned, another nice day in Paris and this was the day that I was going to drag Mr. T shopping. Not just any shopping, but the best kind of shopping in Paris!!! So, up, coffee, wonderful pastries, clean and sweep bodies, and off to the streets. We made a slight detour to Rue St Augistin and stopped in a travel agency we had seen on one of our walk abouts in the neighborhood because we were thinking about going to Mont St. Michel. We were going to do it on our own, but wanted to see what we could find on an organized trip. The Agency we found was only for pied trips, IE walking trips, outside France. A very nice man, who spoke English, gave us a couple of referrals and on we went. We went back to Avenue de le Opera, snickering as we went by the Starbucks, stopping to window shop along the way. Just a few more blocks and we hit the promised land, Galeries Lafeyette with their men's store, women's store , housewares, gourmet store. Wait a minute, Mr T, why are you taking the picture of that 6' woman, beautifully dressed, pulling a rolling suitcase? Oh, well, that will cost you an extra outfit!!!
So, in we go, even though this is our second trip to this store(s) I still am overwhelmed about the size and content. We roam from floor to floor, looking at the most outrageous, and beautiful clothes all the while I am sneaking looks at the prices. You really don't want to give anyone the impression that you are surprised about the prices. One of my downfalls is shoes. I have a small foot and so I am always on the lookout for something I like. Well, you should have seen Mr. T's face when I picked up a pair of Manolos and smiled at the salesperson and said "Do you have these in my size?" I looked at Mr T and he was playing around with the camera, asked him what are you doing, and he said why deleting the picture of the woman I took!!!. Honestly, men!!! There was no way I would pay $2200 for a pair of shoes, but it was fun to look!!!!
So, after exhausting Galeries, we walked out and down the street and I found Printemps. It is also one of the premier department stores, along with the Bon Marche. We had never been in Printemps before so we decided to take a look. Now, I think I like this department store much better, the sales people were a little nicer. We wandered thru their first floor which consisted makeup, etc. There was a whole area devoted to watches, by different watchmakers. One is Breitling, and there must have been 20-25 different styles. So, upstairs we go and I looked at women's clothing, shoes, etc. One whole floor was devoted to jewelry, you know, Tiffany, oh, Debeers, diamonds, a whole area devoted to them. Now, my motto for this is a woman can't have too many diamonds. We walked up to that area and started looking and this nice young, well dressed gentleman walked up and in very good English said "Is there anything I can help you with" Hmmm, maybe diamond earrings in exchange for the picture of the woman?
Next floor up, all housewares and lovely Daum and Lalique glassware. So, we walked into the Daum area(we have one piece) and I found a beautiful vase and Mr. T found a cheval. In talking with the saleslady, she mentioned that there is a cafeteria on the 9th floor with outside dining and so we decided to go up there and check it out. There are not many tall buildings in Paris, but I have to tell you if you are visiting, this should be one place to go because, the view is beautiful and the food is very good. We spent time up there just taking pictures which I will post later ( Mr. T has over 500 and I have over 300, so it's going to take a while before I have anything to post, please be patient).
Well, by this time, Mr. T is getting kind of antsy, so after lunch and pictures , we take off walking back toward the apartment. I was walking along talking to him and all of a sudden, I felt like I was alone. So, I turned around and there he was, about a half a block back, taking another picture of a very tall, beautiful, skinny women walking at a fast clip with a rolling suitcase. What is with this?? Oh well, maybe those diamond earrings will find a home!
So, we went merrily on our way, stopping occasionally for a sit down, coffee, glass of wine. I decided to do a little Monoprix shopping so Mr. T went back to the apartment and I went grocery, wine and chocolate shopping. As I was starting to turn the corner to the Monoprix I happened to look back and there was Mr. T taking another picture of a beautiful, dark haired beauty, walking at a fast clip with a rolling suitcase. I am definitely going to have to get to the bottom of this!!!!
To be continued.
