Madames & Messieurs - Bonjour
This is a little aside from the Journal of our Paris Adventure. I wanted to give you a little taste of the neighborhood that we are in. www.rentals-paris.com/mapmarsollier.gif We are the little bulls eye on the map.
Right around the corner from the apartment is a theater called Theatrer des Bouffes Parisiens. Several of the actors/actresses live in the area, so nights are very active around us. One of the actresses was out walking her dog. Her name is Michele Laroque. It is a very tight little neighborhood; everyone seems to know everyone. In addition there is a upscale Indian and Pakistani restaurant two doors down from our apartment building. It is quite nice, white tablecloths etc. We have seen very nice automobiles parked there , today a Rolls Royce convertible, the obligatory Mercedes, two different Bentleys and an Aston Martin. Our apartment is on the backside so, during the evening we get quite a bit of restaurant noise. It is not very annoying, and as a matter of fact we think it is entertaining. One night last weekend, either Friday or Saturday, someone was having a birthday party and there was much singing.
About a quarter of a block down on the right side is our little cafe called Millefere, a Basque influence menu with good wine and excellent desserts. All of their dishes are homemade, including their ice creams. The daily offerings change and everything we have eaten there is wonderful. As a matter of fact we ate there today and since it was a little slow, we had a great conversation with the young man that waited on us. His name is Engine and he was born in Paris, of Turkish parents. He is probably in his late 20's. He went back to Turkey for a while and then came back to Paris to finish education, and went to London for a while, and came back. The owner of the restaurant is some well known chef and this is his third restaurant.
There is a little hardware store, where I get my batteries for my camera. I have rechargeable ones but there seems to be something wrong, as they don't keep a charge. Just across St Augustin is the restaurant Crepe Bretonne, ate there once, wonderful crepes. We found a dry cleaners just down from the creperie and next to that a wonderful little combination kitchen, stationery and some cleaning products store. Amazing stuff. To the left on St Augustin is the mens coiffure where Mr. T will be getting a beard trim. We went for a walk a couple of nights ago down St Augustin and found restaurant called La Fontaine Gaillon. It had a very nice terrace patio and was in a beautiful building. I always carry a pen and a small notebook to make notes, cause, I still get really turned around here. We came home, and as I am a faithful googler, I typed in the name. Yikes, !!! fairly expensive place, has a one star and is owned by Gerard Depardieu. We also are about 50 steps away from one of the entrances to Passage Chouseil which we can take as a short cut to Petit Champs and then to the Ave Opera.
So, we have the best of all worlds here in this location and I haven't even mentioned the butcher, baker and well, haven't found a candlestick maker, but give me some time, if there is one around I will find it.
I will continue our saga later.
