So, to bed on 9/18, two people exhausted but very, very happy to be back in Paris. Saturday dawned and with food in the apartment and a list of things to do, breakfast was at home. The apartment is quite nice and fairly roomy, bed is one piece( last visit, it was a queen bed made out of two smaller ones and was an adventure in itself). So, what to do? We were still trying to catch up on sleep and just trying to get rid of the ole jet lag so we decided to take it easy. We decided to get to know the hood a little better, so we took our first walk with purpose. We started out and walked to the Opera, just looking for things and stores that we had missed on our previous visits. We ended up on Blvd de Capucines which becomes Blvd. de Italians. I love it because of all of the trees. You certainly know that it is Saturday because we saw many families walking, children on bikes, or scooters talking excitedly with mom and dad, or mom or dad. We decided that it was time for a little snack so we stopped at a cafe and had each had a salad, Kirk had water and yes, k2, I got hooked into about an $6 dollar soda. It was coke in a bottle.
We met our next door neighbor in the apartment building, and she was very friendly and excited to have an American couple next door. We are going to get together for some wine and snacks later. All in all, it was a pretty quiet day. Nothing too exciting. We stayed in for dinner, which was really nice. Some fruit, cheese, olives and of course wine. All came from the food fair.
Sunday dawned, I guess, however the two traveler 63's didn't see it, both didn't get up until after noon, what!!!! We never do that, usually up at 6: 00 a. m. We had planned to go to the Sunday market if we could find it, but we thought since most of the day was shot, we would just take it off. We had bought some pork chops, so dinner was at home.
Monday dawned and we did another run to the Monoprix, dropped the groceries off and walked to the Tuileries garden. It was a little foggy so, pictures were a little different but I think they came out ok. We walked toward Rue St. Honore, looked at some really expensive watches. We decided to try to find one of the places that we loved when we were in Paris last time. We did find it and we also found a little wine bar that we had read about called Le Rubis. This was our first adventure with no English. We asked the lady if she spoke English, non!!!! with emphasis. So, we had to decide what the menu said all by ourselves. Not too bad, it was a beef and potatoes with a vinaigrette, of some kind. Actually it was very good, and one thing we have learned, don't ask what it is, just eat and enjoy. ! While we sitting there, a very well dressed older gentleman came in, a regular I think. Walking in with him was a very well behaved Black lab dog. He was commanded to lay down and he did. About half way thru the lunch, the dog became restless and started to wander around, saying hello to certain people. One of those certain people was Mr. Traveler. He came up and put his head in Mr T's lap, all the while, tail was going 90 miles a minute. After a sharp rebuke from the owner the dog went back and laid down. The gentleman finished his lunch and was getting ready to go, commanded the dog to get up. Both got to the door and the dog turned around, looked at Mr. T and sauntered back to say goodbye. This was followed by a sharp rebuke and tail wagging the dog went back to the owner.
After lunch we headed back to the apartment, but not before we found Jean Paul Hevin's chocolate store. Wow!!! We bought chocolate bar, and some of his famous macaroons. OMG!!!! His chocolate is world renown and there must have been 12-15 different macaroon choices.
We decided to go out to dinner and we found a seafood bistro, literally 5 minute walk from the apartment. I am not going to tell you about it, because you would not believe it, suffice it to say we did not go hungry. I have a picture which I will post later, because I don't think I could explain it with just words. We also found a wonderful wine store, which actually represents Bernard Magrez who has 25 properties which all produce wine.
Very interesting. The primary one is Pape Clement.
