That's really amazing, Imec. I've seen flakes like that maybe once or twice in my life, but normally you have to put snow under a microscope to catch this perfection.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! That is so incredible! I don't think I've ever seen snowflakes captured so perfectly with just a camera. Really magically pretty!

I'll go back out tomorrow and see if I can get a pic with something to use for scale. You can actually see these magical shapes with the naked eye.

I knew you could see them because I remember so well from childhood the first time I ever saw one. They really are magical and as you mentioned are of a particular type of snow, which I imagine for all you snow people must be a nice switch up.Anything has got to help being in all that cold.

imec, your photography skills impress me more and more with each of your posts. This series is really incredible! You might be interested in W.A. Bentley's books on snowflake photography. I actually own one of them, Snow Crystals. I used the photos in his book to recreate snow flakes in different art media. Often less successfully than in nature. However snow flakes are amazing inspiration, despite my inability to one-up mother nature.

Fantastic detail, Imec. Are they on the car's windscreen?

Fantastic detail, Imec. Are they on the car's windscreen? Thanks HW - a couple are on the side window, but most are on the bodywork. You are REALLY enjoying your new camera huh, Imec? Nice photos. Yes! I'm having a lot of fun with it. Thanks. imec, your photography skills impress me more and more with each of your posts. This series is really incredible! Thanks - although I'm not sure I did anything clever - put the camera on a tripod, set it to macro and shot them using the self timer so my hands didn't cause any camera shake while pressing the shutter button. Then just zoomed a bit and cropped with paint.net.

I too can only recall having seen those macroflakes a few times in spite of having lived in Michigan for a number of years. Well captured.
