Ok -- so did I. He should be called Harry Styleless. He can't dance either.

I don’t typically watch the Grammys, but last night I watched the whole show. I’m sure the ceremony has evolved tremendously over time.
Last night, from what it seemed to me, there was a natural emphasis on inclusivity. A blending and celebration of color, ethnicity, body type, and gender, made obvious through the different presentations, comments, fashion style and the types of music.
As far as the "red carpet" clothing, it felt like costuming for what you might see in an epic film. However, instead of a costume feature from the past, the clothing was of modern times and modern expression. Possibly the most traditional outfits were on people like Taylor Swift, but I wasn’t necessarily watching to see what was being worn. For me, it was more of a cultural reminder of a slice of society choosing freedom of expression, and quite the opposite of what has been thrown at us (politically) over the past several years from what I see as the complete opposite.
As for Smokey Robinson, despite the obvious work he’s had on his face, I thought he looked and acted pretty darn good for 83.

Really dreadful red carpet clothes in the main but I hear what you are saying htmb . Madonna is making her own choices, of course, but really she is close to/ has past the point of going to far imo.

In general, the clothes were much better than the usual red carpet stuff -- at least that's what I was thinking until I got to that orange "dress" on Forence Pugh.

Danielle Deadwyler's blue dress is my favourite. Mine too Cheery. I don't know what Kate was thinking of though - for me it really does not work, not her usually elegant style

I quite like Kate's outfit.....but I think Carey Mulligan's dress belongs in a Tudor painting

Ariana Dubose’s gown would have been quite nice had she not ripped the lining out of the skirt. 😆
Princess Kate actually wore this same gown to the BAFTA’s a few years ago, but maybe the black gloves were new? (Hated them, for the record, though the gown is lovely.)

Bless you, dear Cheery, as the Bafta red carpet fashions are exactly what I need for a mood lift today.
First of all, kudos to the men, who are all wearing regular men's dress up clothing appropriate to the occasion. I leave Eddie Redmayne out of that, as he looks stupid without a shirt under his jacket.
I have to disagree with you ladies about the women's clothing, as D.Deadwyler's dress just looks like a swimsuit with a long skirt tacked on. Pretty fabric, though. And I love that Florence Pugh -- a wonderful actress -- wore that very fun & fluffy orange confection with such conviction. Also totally love Carey Mulligan's look -- the dress, the jewelry, her hair & makeup.
The only person who looks almost as good as Mulligan is Gwendoline Christie, who rocks delicate blonde beauty with a steely gaze & a dress that is simultaneously feminine & intimidating. Agree with Kimby about the missing lining on Ariana Dubose’s otherwise impressive gown. Emma Thompson appears to be wearing her entire winter wardrobe with the ugliest shoes she could find. Is that to hide that she appears to have put on a good bit of weight?
Was there a banquet afterward? How the heck could Angela Bassett get anything to her mouth?
It is past time for those silly capes to go away.
Princess Kate is right at the top of my list of very boring celebrities and that includes her clothing. Yes, she is slender and never looks dumpy or frumpy, but her look has no spark. Although even her goddessy gown is too structured to be striking, Kate gets major points for trying to pull together a wow look this time around. The earrings alone are worth the price of admission and the very long black gloves almost save that dress.

I don't think Princess Kate is allowed to look too "celebrity". She always looks good in a classic way but I imagine the snotty commentary from the Daily Mail and others if she wore anything more flashy/overdesigned.
Angela Bassett didn't need that miniscule bag -- she could just have put her phone and carkeys in her sleeves.

I agree that Gwendoline Christie looks stunning... I am not keen on the dresses where you can see the wearer's pants either...just because a girl has good legs doesn't mean that they need to be on show. Anything with wonderbra 'bewbs' hanging out looks cheap, altho a plunging neckline with a glimpse of flesh can be classy...so long as the wearer is slender. Same for ultra short skirts..only the young suit mini skirts imo. I am so old.

Thanks, K2.
Can we hope for iconic this year instead of just ugly or outrageous or worst of all, unflattering?

I was stunned to realize that one of my least favorite gowns was worn by the woman who just won the Oscar for….wait for it…costume design! Ruth Carter is wearing one of those shapeless fabric drapes and, worse, it’s in my least favorite color, chartreuse.

Not a dress, but the best song award just went to the Indian songmakers from RRR. Their performance was a Bollywood extravaganza, such energetic dancing. And there were costumes…

It is distressing that Hollywood seems to have discovered Bollywood music and dance about 60 years late.

I just saw some of the outfits on the CNN site, and it looks like the actresses must have been offered a bonus for sweeping the floor with their dresses. Think of how many poor people could have been clothed or provided with blankets with all of that extra useless fabric.

Looking through that CNN list of pictures, my first thought is that bra manufacturers are rapidly losing business, given the number of women letting it all hang out, especially when there is a lot of silicon involved.
My second thought is that the Chinese women generally seem to be more discreet and have better taste (or advice) than the others on the list. And yes, there is too much material hanging/draping in some cases. And I thought those bare legs sticking out was over and done with as a style, an unregretted one.
What on earth is Harvey Guillen? Straight out of Mme Tussaud's Wax Museum.
Looking at Florence Pugh's shoes, she must have been lifted down into position with a crane, no way she could walk in those things. Eva Longoria, Halle Berry -- tacky, tacky. I really dislike those two part outfits like Janelle Monae's. Rihanna in pregnancy bondage. I realize you are supposed to celebrate weight gain nowadays, but Melissa Macarthy didn't need to emphasize it in those red flounces. Sandra Oh in a pukey colour.

Meh....I'm not really that fussed with any of them tbh. Nothing leaps out at me Oh they all get 10/10 for effort, and nobody looks REALLY unfortunate. They dont set out to look slutty or ridiculous I suppose...but really some of these are old enpugh to know better. I agree with bjd about the asian ladies looking elegant. Melissa McCarthy needs to sack her stylist. I'd have liked Cara Delevingne's dress better without the shoulder bow or the slit...the colour is magnificent.

Some of the ladies should have been warned that the carpet was beige instead of red this year. Tan dresses just don't look good on that background.

I did think that the choice of gown for best costume designer wasn't as hideous as many. Too much cloth yes but the color (not quite chartreuse...) went well with her complexion and she did look elegant.
Mixed reviews on others.
All the Asian women kept theirs in check with the more modest gowns that weren't dated but tasteful.
Andie McDowell's simple but elegant black gown was by far the most classic choice.
There were some others but I don't recall the names off the top of my head.
Some of the more hideous garb was worn by several of the men. Pants with an accompanying skirt? Please...
