Emma Stone and companion look like they came out of a saloon’s upstairs bordello.
Julia Roberts as Mother Superior.
Tilda Swinton. No words.
Olivia Wilde’s too sheer unlined sparkly gown near the start of the parade, just bad taste and bad form.
But Amal Clooney looks nice, when I can wrest my eyes from her handsome hubby.

You made me go and look at Tilda Swinton when I have better things to do.

Not the too-sheer sparkly number? What’s wrong with you?

Sparkles might provoke an epilectic fit.

Bordello, yes, but I was thinking more of the bar scene in the original Star Wars, rather than a wild west saloon. With Julia, I got Here Comes the Judge instead of anything nunlike. re: Alicia Vikander and Emma Stone ~ those get-ups are from Louis Vuitton, as is the little number Sophie Turner was wearing, which indeed looks like a suitcase. Amal Clooney is gorgeous, but that gown is an icky color. Julianna Margulies looks as though she's auditioning for Queen of Halloween. She wins.

Quite like the red sparkly number worn by a Ms Gonzales...but most of the rest are eiher boring (golf club dinner dance 1978) or they look like a 3 year old has been let loose with a glue gun and the scrap box in a wallpaper shop.

I can't help but think that all these "fashion designers" are bored stiff and are therefore saying "Let's see how horrible/outrageous/unflattering I can make something and still get an idiot to wear it."
All the short stuff is absolutely awful: The two women who are wearing what look like tarted-up baby doll pyjamas, or the other two with what seem to be black plastic squares or bags attached in various corners of the outfit.
The look has obviously changed -- a lot sleeker and shinier. Are they trying to look like mermaids? And those neon ruffles wrapped around some of them!
The only one I think looks okay is the last one: Laura Harrier. And yes, Amal Clooney always looks good. I have a soft spot for Tilda Swinton. She always looks like she has her own style that she carries off, not much makeup, and she looks intelligent.

Tilda Swinton could wear the most gorgeous gown or whatever, but she gives me the creeps. Something about her bone structure and facial features.

It's not cruelty, Questa -- it's concern for these poor dimwits who deform their bodies without realizing the possible consequences. The humour is just an extra.

I thought the purpose of the Met gala was to display totally outrageous fashion (because they don't have Mardi Gras up there?).

Yes, Kimby's link is fun to see all the varied (and over the top ridiculous) "costumes" worn over the years. (And, there were a couple of them that could easily be worn at Mardi Gras depending on the weather though. Maybe save the skimpy ones for our Midsummer Mardi Gras, Kerouac and HWINPP's favorite non-holiday here )

Harry Styles looks a twat.

In the interest off being culturally informed, I went & clicked on a youtube of Styles singing and fail to understand why he's a big deal.
