Oh,
joy!
I'm sitting sullenly on my sofa bored to the point of depression. I had to get up at 6 am to be ready for the $@#%^& roofer who did not show up because it was raining. It has rained all day, is still raining, and it's a little too chilly in the house. But then, Kimby (blessing upon her!) posted the Oscar fashions and my spirits lifted.
I will start by saying I have to disagree with Kimby about Ariana Grande's gown, which I rather love. It fits my criteria of a dress being okay if it works with the wearer's personality, celebrity, and ability to carry it off. Ariana shines on all those counts and the dress itself is a triumph of design, engineering, and fit. Also, I adore the color.
Okay, I'm going to go down the pictures in order on the
Vulture link Kimby provided above, ignoring anything of no interest and pretty much all the men ~
Billie Eilesh's demure look rather suits her.
I never like the way Florence Pugh is turned out at these events, and this time is no exception.
The dress Lupita Nyong’o is wearing is no great shakes, but she elevates it & makes it shine.
Danielle Brooks -- the effing leg!
I'm not dazzled by Emma Stone's look, nor can I find fault with it, as it is elegant & appropriate.
Issa Rae. Disappointing. She is far too fine an actress to think she needs that revealing piece of crap.
Sandra Hüller --
click. She carries it off nicely.
This has been Jamie Lee Curtis's look for a while now. I wish she'd go for "prettier", but who am I to judge?
Rita Moreno does a good job of pulling off old style celebrity glamor.
Marilee Matlin looks wonderful -- the style, the hair, & that color on her is perfect.
America Ferrera just went from all-round wholesome to va-va-voom. Well done, America!
Nazrin Choudhury -- "Our fabric shop just got in a bunch of new bolts & here they are."
There is something off about Laverne Cox's dress or maybe it's the angle. Whatever -- star steps out in about what you'd expect.
Awww, Vanessa Hudgens looks beautiful, elegant, and yes -- glowing.
Amelia Dimoldenberg's dress is an ugly color and the bodice, which doesn't seem to fit, looks like a discount store swimsuit. Also -- ladies, can you lose that asinine long-locks-over-the-shoulder thing?
Speaking of not fitting -- Erika Alexander looks as though she is trying to keep that silly-ass overskirt from falling off.
I love the color of Brittany Snow's dress, but have my usual gripe about weird breast holders.
Julianne Hough humbly allowed her garment to precede her into the room.
Leah Lewis shows what lack of class looks like.
If any off-the-wall gown worked, Quannah Chasinghorse's worked like fireworks. It is fabulous!
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan -- thank you for showing us your piano leg.
I simply cannot find anything nice to say about Diane Warren's ugly suit.
Amber Midthunder looks wonderful in that gorgeous gown. What a great color/fabric combination.
Celine Song - what's with those shoes?
Maybe next year Sean Lennon will find a live girl to bring to the Oscars.
Eugene Lee Yang. You're a man. In a dress. You look like an idiot.
Eva Longoria --
click.
I have to say that I'm knocked out by Andrea Riseborough's gown. Finally, the utter elegance of someone wearing a dress that not only looks as though it were made for her, but owning it to the point that anyone else wouldn't dare wear anything like it. Its my candidate for best look of the night.
I love Gabrielle Union-Wade's dress and how well she wears it.
What would happen if Hailee Steinfeld sneezed in that frock?
Cynthia Erivo ripped the upholstery off her den furniture to run up that little number? Sheesh.
Fran Drescher, an attractive person, somehow decided to go for a dated, elderly star look.
I totally love how Anya Taylor-Joy looks. That's another good example of nicely matching the person with her dress.
Emily Blunt is another star whose red carpet looks I generally don't care for and that goes for this one too.
Yes, Becky G, you do look stupidly slutty.
Poor Xochitl Gomez must have missed a bunch of home ec classes & didn't know how to finish making her dress.
That's it from me!
