People are ready to let off some steam after 2 years. We will do our usual. Wander around the lower Quarter, meet up with some friends, have lunch and take it from there. We'll be back "home" before sundown.
Hotel capacity is at 90%, add the locals and that's a lot of people.
We avoid the crowded areas therefore our location in the Marigny where it is less congested, sort of. The tourists shoot for Bourbon Street and Canal Street. No go for us.

Apart from brief news clips my only concept of what happens at Mardi Gras comes from the book title Big Fat Tuesday by Vivian Cunnington and the movie "Black Orpheus" which is 'foreign', and one of my favourites.

Happy birthday to her and good luck to you for dealing with the difficult age for the next 5 years. She already doesn't want to smile anymore.

Good for all of the birthday boys. And here I thought that the 60th anniversary of the Evian agreements was important.

Belated birthday wishes to the aforementioned recipients.
Today is St. Joseph's Day. Celebrated throughout the city with altars paying homage to St. Joseph. There are over 100 altars listed in the newspaper. I am about to head out in a wee bit to visit one or two. Maybe some more later in the day.

I SO wish I were going with you! A very happy St. Joseph's day to you. I wish you had been here too Bixa. We had such a lovely day. We attended 5 altars, some old, some new. I was very impressed with the efforts and devotion of so many people. We would have had a blast. One of these years you'll make it I just know. Maybe by then our new house will be built...

President Biden has posted Happy Nowruz wishes on FB. WTF is Nowruz? Never heard of it, till today. Here’s a curriculum guide put together by Harvard. cmes.fas.harvard.edu/files/NowruzCurriculumText.pdf(I don’t think this will gain Biden any popularity points among the GOP/Trumpers. Just the opposite: Biden celebrates a “raghead” holiday...)

On this date in 1854, the Republican Party was founded by slavery opponents at a schoolhouse in Ripon, Wisconsin.
How far they have fallen since then…

As a fellow reader of Heather Cox Richardson*, Kimby, I imagine you have reason to think that almost every single day!
*I think I may have learned of her from you. If so, thank you!

I went over to the "old place" yesterday afternoon and birdwatched. Was hoping to see some Cedar Waxwings but the Mulberry tree isn't quite leafed out yet for them. I did see a couple of warblers.
