There used to be quite a few St. Patrick' Day celebrations in Paris, but I think that covid killed them off. Of course, there are at least 100 Irish pubs in Paris (more than English ones), and I'm sue they are quite festive today. None right near me. I never see "English pubs" or do and don't recognize them as such, yet there are "Irish pubs" in seemingly every city of the world. Not sure what the difference is, Guinness on tap? The English/Irish pub is one of the great civilizational inventions in human history I swear, cultures that don't have something similar are really missing out.

I don't want to google for more, but I do remember two non-Irish pubs in Paris. The English Red Lion was on the Champs Elysées, and the Scottish Silver Goblet was at Les Halles. Neither of them exists anymmore.

They had to have someone to build the railways It was the Chinese in America. In my working days I remember talking to a contractor who said there was nothing like a Paddy for digging a hole.

20th anniversary of the American invasion of Iraq. More than 100,000 Iraqis were killed as well as 4,431 American soldiers. Hooray! Iraq is now a free and democratic country with total security and no corruption. Or is it?

Are there any days left in the year that aren't dedicated to something?

Are there any days left in the year that aren't dedicated to something? No, no. I see my birthday finally gives some due to poor old unappreciated hepatitis.

Today is the 4th anniverdary of the Notre Dame fire.
The base of the spire was put in place today and it will start rising in the Paris skyline next week.

I love topiary and I’m lucky enough to have a decent eye and ability to shape shrubs. A job I enjoy doing.

I also love topiary but I always imagine it as a nightmare of maintenance, particularly when it is elaborate.

Wow, Lugg ~ that picture should be the poster for World Topiary Day. (didn't know there was such a day). That is truly one of the most imaginative uses of topiary for landscaping that I've ever seen.
You are a man of many talents, Mick! Do you have any bonsai plants?

Will just stick this in here ~ Turkey had a 93.6% election turnout this time, according to their Supreme Election Council. From a few minutes ago: State-run Anadolu news agency's latest figures show Erdogan's lead under 50% and his main challenger, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, over 44%. If neither wins a majority, they will go to a second vote -- which would be a first for Erdogan. source
