Just received my "desktop" model!
Have you got a wormery?
I am ridiculously excited about it and keep admiring it.

I'm more partial to bugs than worms - am thinking of a little desktop buggery maybe...

I used to love digging up worms and watching them burrow their way back into the ground.

Okay, enough teasing ~~ Annie, what exactly is a desktop wormery?
The dirt where I live is so gritty, but I do what I can with compost. I thrill at every sight of a worm.
When my brother was nine or ten he had a worm farm going under the raised back of my grandparents' house. He'd come into the kitchen, snag a tomato slice, and go right back out. My grandmother quizzed him about this. He said, "They see me coming with this tomato and raise their little heads out of the dirt and go 'snap snap snap'."

Love the idea Annie but,do you keep them confined or perhaps let them out to "do their thing"? There was an abandoned worm farm that I was privy to years ago and I went and rescued a slew of them to put in my compost pile where they were quite prolific and useful. I had an ant farm once...would watch it for hours....fascinating! Can we see a pic Annie? Would love!!!

Here is what I got, Bixa and Casimira! bubblehouseworms.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=4_19&products_id=15it is called "desktop" as it is tiny and can be kept inside, which was crucial to us, as we don't have any outside space. The worms are confined to the bottom two pots (their "duplex") the top pot is for plants or seeds and I have hopes that the mini sunflower seeds I planted will grow happily there. I keep fussing over them, wondering if I they are damp enough, have enough newspaper, enough food.. worry that they are drowning in their wee (which is collected in the saucer at the bottom and is used to fertilise my houseplants). Since the weather is definitely warmer, I wonder if they are too hot... I am sure I'll worry that they may be too cold in winter!

You'd better get cracking with this project ~~ you're gonna need lots of teensy slinky sweaters.
