The Gulf is a hot tub of water. It should attract Californians. Actually, I am surprised that so few hurricanes are actually brewed inside the Gulf. A lot of the big ones seem to make the trip all the way from the west coast of Africa. Dolly looks harmless, but forecasts have been wrong before...

I know it's petty & self-centered of me to whine about this, since the tropical storm (Odile) which is turning my garden into a sodden ruin is due to grow into a hurricane and pound the Pacific coast of Mexico, but ........ I'm due to fly out of here on the morning of the 20th: www.weather.com/weather/tenday/Oaxaca+Mexico+MXOA0069

The 20th is at least two hurricanes away!
Meanwhile, on the Atlantic side, Edouard has received his name, but he is not going anywhere.

Oh good – maybe that means the bad weather predicted in the link for the 20th will be even worse!

I don't think you have anything to worry about Bixa. Odile made landfall in Baja CA and is expected to move North with heavy rains. By the 20th you should be "home free".

Well, there's another one behind Edouard, not yet named I don't think, that looks more ominous but, at this point there are so many projections it's difficult to tell. The coast of Texas I believe being the most threatened.

Thanks, Casimira. Knock wood, yesterday turned out to be pretty nice & it's not raining now either.
My sister in deepest south Texas, less than two hours from the coast, says they're getting tons of rain.

Glad you are ok Bixa - they are forecasting more flooding from Odile for the Southwest mid week which is very concerning. We just had the bad flooding last week. Cabo San Lucas looks bad - Odile hit hard!!!

As someone from Florida, I've certainly paid attention to the paths of hurricanes all my life, but I never would have guessed I'd need to be concerned with hurricane-related weather in Phoenix.

It looks like Odile is really going to be remembered in Arizona and New Mexico.

We didn't get much rain yesterday here in Phoenix (just isolated quick cells that didn't last too long) - they are saying we could get a little more rain today but I honestly doubt it looking at the radar. Tucson might have gotten more than us and looks like New Mexico got the brunt of it.

However, it looks like Polo is going to drench Oaxaca with Bixa scheduled to fly on the 20th.

Looks like Gonzalo is heading straight for Bermuda. I think it's been quite a while since they've been hit head on by a hurricane.

It's a Category 4 and very organized. A very dangerous storm. Due to hit the island later this afternoon.

Three active hurricanes all going on at once. The aforementioned Gonzalo that just swacked Bermuda, Anna, off the Hawaiian Islands and another off the Southern coast of Mexico. I don't know that this has ever happened before in meteorological history.

Will be on Sanibel during the final month of hurricane season. Hurricanes have been a non-issue so far this year. Hope that keeps up.

It's about time. We were all so impatient. To be honest with you, this being part of the current headline news here, most especially, the politicians throwing their hat in the ring for the presidential 2016 Presidential run, (both Parties) is kind of a welcome relief. The sad part about it, is one of them will "spin" it in their favor. I'm seriously thinking, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua,anywhere...

Hurricane "Danny" forming up to be the first hurricane of this 2015 season. If this f's up my travel plans to NY, I'm going to be really mad.

Danny's track should be sending it out to sea, so there seems to be nothing to worry about there. But I saw that there are two other "disturbances" in formation, one near the US and one just off the coast of Africa, so it looks like the time has come to start paying close attention to things.

Danny is no longer expected to swing north but to keep plodding ahead towards the west while fizzling out at the same time.
