Not sure how Elsa affected Sanibel, but it’s headed my way next and is predicted to make landfall at Cedar Key. That could change, of course. It’s times like this that I really don’t like being in Florida. I’m not there, but our neighbors said we got 10 inches of rain, though the weather service said 4”. Some of the sea turtle nests on the beach were flooded out by the high tide storm surge.

Elsa reeking havoc in the NE. Reports of flooded subway stations in NYC.
So sad to hear about the sea turtles in Florida.

Fred is on his way across the big islands of the Caribbean. What will be left in a couple of days? Could strenghten into the Gulf... or weaken.

It appears that TS Fred will dodge us in NOLA and stay East of us and swack the panhandle of Florida.
Coming up the rear later in the week is TS Grace which may reek havoc here with heavy rains. Too soon to tell.

It is now projected that Tropical Storm Henri will reach hurricane strength in the next couple of days and will hit the coast of New York and/or New England. Do those people really need this?

The tip of Long Island and the surrounding area are due for a rude awakening as Henri threatens them for a direct hit.
My brother and a close friend told me last evening that all the ultra rich Manhattanites who escaped NYC and took up residence in this area due to Covid, are now escaping back to NYC to avoid the storm. Ironic that these people have the luxury of being able to do this when one thinks of people in poverty stricken areas do not have this advantage.

Money buys options, casi. More unfair than ironic.
Meanwhile it looks like another storm may be headed into the gulf later this weekend. Hope it stays away from NOLA AND Florida!

Hoping we don't get hit too bad.
Ironic in that she is targeted to make landfall on Sunday, which is the 16th anniversary of Katrina.
At least where we are living is elevated so we don't have to haul out the sandbags at this location.
I am avoiding the mainstream media as much as possible because they hype up these storms so much.
I will check in on a Gulf Coast weather forum that I rely on for accurate information.

Media hyping “stories” has gotten us into trouble in so many ways in the past decades. We need better, less hysterical reporting on so many fronts.
Be safe Casi. Is your old house site secured/securable?

There's nothing to secure Kimby. If it floods, so be it. As we await demolition, it's empty of anything valuable at this point. There are no doors in the rear of the house. It's pointless to try to and plywood or the like. Water is bound to get in there regardless.

I hope your new house will be elevated or armored to survive future hurricanes, casi.

I am so pleased that you are all so calm and have taken all the necessary actions. There should be a law or something to stop the exaggerating of the situations...like how the Covid information was always given to the press by one person and he or she kept a calming tone, even if the information was not good.
We have the same with bushfires and reporters doing the "My fire is worse than your fire" game. All it does is panic the people who are seeking reliable and precise information to guide their actions.
Good Luck all.

Please check in when you can so we know you are OK. ❤️

It's gusting out there pretty bad and only just begun. Was able to get a brief dog walk in a little bit ago. Power will be out soon. It's going to be a long day and night.
Thank you for the well wishes good people.

Do you have a generator, Casi? I can’t imagine days/weeks without power in the heat and humidity.

The storm is a monster, and it seems NOLA is right in the thick of it.
I’m watching the stormcast forum that casi uses and trees and power poles are being blown over and at least one roof in the French Quarter is blown off. Winds 130-150 mph at landfall, and now it’s slowing down and will be able to linger as it wreaks its havoc on that most fair of southern cities.
Fingers crossed for casi and her husband.

I know y'all are being careful about battery power on your devices. Also know that you all have ridden out many storms and I'll be waiting to hear the "all clear" from you when this one is over. xxxooo to you both.

Just talked to Casimira ~ she is okay & there was no flooding. The power is out because of that energy company tower that collapsed last night. It is cloudy there, but not raining at the moment. A great relief to talk to her!

Glad to read that they are okay. Hope it does not take long for their power to be restored but it seems there will be some major restoration needed to be done as I have read it is pretty much city wide. Thank you for letting us know their status!
