Damp in Paris but not cold. And people at the ski resorts are beginning to worry.

A bit cooler here but nowhere close to freezing. And still grey and damp, even though there is nothing that I would call rain.

In a rare stretch of mild weather, we have not had any snow and the temperatures have been hovering above 0C for about a week. Boxing Day we had some freezing rain so when we returned home in the evening it was quite an adventure getting down all the iced stairs to the house.
We were under a weather warning for tomorrow through to Monday of significant amounts of freezing rain, therefore, Mr. M. set off to town yesterday to refill the bbq propane tank, purchase bags of sand/salt mixture, got a few groceries and filled up the car with gas. We also checked to see if we had some bottled water. If we lose power we have no water or septic. He ran the generator and made sure he had extra fuel. This morning, the warning was reduced, I am hoping they are correct!

In Paris we are hovering just above freezing in the morning (while the suburbs are not as lucky) but it still feels miserable compared to what we are used to. Of course I understand that this is ridiculous compared to what some of you are experiencing.

Huckle, do you notice any generalized warming over past decades, perhaps an effect of global warming/climate change?

I am reading an interesting book about Europe written by Tim Flannery, an Australian paleontologist. He says that right now, Earth is warming 30 times faster than at any time over the past 2.5 million years.
Meanwhile, it's foggy and 3° here.

Raining cats and dogs here at Saint Martin. Don't step in the Poodle ! With great joy I can report that it has been raining here this afternoon...steady drizzle, won't put out fires but cools the fury and slows the rush. My garden has survived...it's all in pots that I moved around chasing shade. Leaves all discoloured and crispy, but it will survive...until next hyper-hot.

We are getting rain today as well Questa! But overnight it will turn to snow with accumulations expected to be between 20 -30 cm. So very glad to read that you are getting some rain, if it only slows the rush, for now that must be a relieve for everyone.

plants can always be replaced, you can't. Oh, I'll be recycled...one day! Mich...wish it were so...the eastern states are still ablaze. The Blue Mountains west of Sydney became a mega-blaze this morning...2 large rivers of fire joining and sweeping everything in its path. Locale is #1 scenic tourist place in NSW. You will all know your Oz geography by the time its finished.

Do you all still watch the news reports on the fires, or is it too sad and demoralizing?

I saw a news report of that idiot Australian premier saying, "Come to Australia on vacation! It's a great place for a family holiday!"
Meanwhile, only 2° here this morning but the sky is clear so it should be nice and sunny later on.
