Oh wow, 57-16 for the Australia-France rugby match tonight. France has not beat Australia in 5 years, but this is getting pathetic.

Did they send out the B team?
We get the tri nations and the 6 nations here and I try and see the matches. On the Australian channel they show a fair bit of rugby league, seems to be much more popular there than in France or the UK.

These matches are the first preparatory matches to the upcoming Rugby World Cup -- I think it's being held in New Zealand this time, so you will get more convenient match times.

29-26 for France-Australia. It's the first time in 8 matches that France has beaten them.

I had never watched women's rugby before, but I find the current France-New Zealand match totally gripping. Those women are vicious! This is a revelation to me, because I have watched women's football in the past and it is completely wimpy.
Don't even think about getting into a bar fight with them.

They didn't even mention that game on the radio news earlier today. Only talked about the men's rugby game of France vs Argentina tonight.

One thing that is interesting about the rugby World Cup currently in progress is learning how the world map is totally different from our usual geography.
For example, today's big news was that pygmy Uruguay created a huge surprise by beating giant Fiji. It was the first time that Uruguay had won a World Cup match in 16 years. And yet Uruguay is a major champion in football, having won the football World Cup twice.

Well well, John Quill of the United States was the first player to receive a red card and be sent home immediately for a dangerous tackle. He may have thought that he was playing American football instead of rugby.

England crushed the All Blacks in today's semi-final. It will be very interesting if they end up playing against Wales in the final next week.

Congratulations to world champion South Africa. Better luck next time, England. I still find it strange that Japan hosted the World Cup, but it just indicates that the sport continues to expand. The World Cup in 2023 will be in France, which makes perfect sense.

I think I only watched two of the matches during the World Cup and not even the final. I am just not in a rugby mood at 09:00 or whatever, even though I don't have any real constraints preventing me. I am pretty sure that it will be the same during the Tokyo Olympics next year. That's all right, though. Every side of the globe should get a chance to have its sports at the correct time.

Ireland beat the All Black's last week - equally amazing. Do they show the pregame Haka on French TV? They do on the US TV stations with a multitude of warnings beforehand - lame!

The haka is the highlight of the game for the more tepid rugby fans.
One of the most amazing things happened after the match. One of the French players is from New Caledonia, a massive Kanak. And he was crying at the end and was finally able to explain that was thinking of his father because the All Blacks are his father's favourite team.

The 'haka' was our first introduction to multiculturalism as kids in Ireland. We all loved it and the crowd was always most appreciative. It gets irritaiting here when the announcer issues multiple warnings for viewers.

I’m watching the women’s rugby league final between NZ and Oz. Terrifying. Particularly the NZ Haka. Oz winning at present.

I have always found rugby more interesting than football but since I am not a huge sports fan in any case, certain fine points of the rules have always been a mystery to me. I think this explanatory video is quite good, even though it is made by an American for American football fans. I had no idea about some of these rules. But since rugby season is starting soon, I will be a bit less ignorant since I do watch quite a few games, especially during the Six Nations tournament.

I knew a lot of the rugby stuff because one of my sons played rugby, but I know nothing about American football except that it's boring because they keep stopping and are padded and helmeted.
