Franco Gatti, at the origin of one of the biggest European hits of all time, has died at the age of 80.

“video not available”. Hmmm.

Maybe that's why it wasn't a hit in North America.

I can't see it either, but if the song in that video is "Sarà perché ti amo", apparently it was a hit in North America -- in Mexico, anyway. I don't know if it was the original or a remake. It does sound somewhat familiar. Clicking through some of the videos, it appears Gatti was buried here. (I've been there! I've been there! )

That is oh so sad. Having lost one sister, I can't imagine losing two in two days...

Wasn't there a similar incident a long time ago about Van Morrison having died?

I don't remember that, but remember that in the fairly recent past someone famous was erroneously reported as dead.
As you can imagine, I'd tripped over into deep mourning before finding out that The Last Man Standing is still with us.

Van Morrison has been dead to me since I found out he's an obnoxious right-wing anti-vaxxer nutbar.

From Wikipedia: Lewis died on the morning of October 28, 2022. Lewis's death came just two days after news sources falsely reported that he had died on October 26. He was 87 years old.

That happens regularly where a site like TMZ jumps the gun and announces a death before the person has stopped breathing although the outcome is already certain.

Actually, I would have thought he was already dead. He just seems so old-fashioned.

In your zeal to make one of your typical negative comments, you apparently failed to notice that the '60s were a long time ago.

I left the 50s and 60s (and 70s and 80s) far behind me long ago, obviously. All of those old rock stars are of little interest to me, but I do try to respect those who remain attached to the past. Nevertheless, I have no reaction to such deaths, and I had no idea that he was still alive either, just like Chubby Checker, Bill Haley, Fats Domino or any of those people. They did their stuff way back then. Some of it has lived on and will continue to live on, and much has been forgotten, as it should be.
I try my best to continue to move forward in my musical tastes, although I feel that I will be affected when Elton John (Your Song) or Cat Stevens (Wild World) unexpectedly check out. They both have had a shitload of crap songs, so I'll only remember the good stuff (good in my own rating). I imagine that at least 80% of the songs of people like Jerry Lee Lewis can be forgotten, too.

I do try to respect those who remain attached to the past. Classic snide put down by you. Different songs and musicians have very personal meanings to people and taste is not an either/or situation. People who appreciate one thing are not automatically rejecting everything else.

I'm sorry it was seen as a "typical negative comment", Bixa, but I really did think that Jerry Lee Lewis was no longer alive. Like the others mentioned by Kerouac, his music and style just seem so far away.

I saw several references to his shifting away from Rock n Roll to Country music. He’s been dead to rock fans for a long time perhaps, though still had fans in another genre.

The wonderful Christine McVie of Fleetwood Mac has died. I have probably played Rumours more than any other album.
