There are usually a number of Thames Barges moored at St. Catherine's Dock, London. (see tillystar's post. "The English Seaside in September" in "Europe" to see one under full sail)

Thanks for this, Imec. They are really quite graceful and beautiful. I suppose the number markings on the prow are to indicate how much weight had been loaded, so they would know when to stop?

They do look like draught markings - but I'm no bargeman - Thames or otherwise.
