For the entire 6 weeks I've been in the city, on Line 9 between the stations of Miromesnil and St Augustin, there is the strongest smell of corn as in corn just cut off the cob or from a just opened can of corn. It is overwhelming, yet searching the web, I can find no reference to what it might be. Let's say that it is so pungent, I almost gag when when the smell hits me. Most bizarre! Does anyone know what I'm talking about or know what it is?

Total mystery to me. And I can affirm that there is no corn processing plant in that very upscale neighborhood.
However, there are indeed certain underground sections of Paris with specific smells. The overwhelming stench of mildew at Madeleine on line 14 is famous. The RATP has tried everything but has not yet solved the problem.

Well, I will have to leave it to others to try to search out the answer as my time here in the city is done. I am aware there are particular smells in certain stations that you speak of kerouac - almost had to go to Madeleine on 14 today and planned on taking note of the mildew smell.
I will just hope the corn smell is gone by the next time I'm here (hoping that to be Christmas), and in the meantime, if anyone happens upon any info about it, please let me know.

The only solution that would have been any comfort to me these past two days would have been a hotel room with cold, cold air-conditioning and ice baths. I could have gotten one if I'd had enough spare change to stay somewhere like Le Crillon - they had rooms available. I really thought I'd get out of Paris before I had to suffer une canicule, but alas, I didn't escape it!
Sure feels nice outside right now though. Sadly, I will be en route home before the ancient stone walls of this appartement cool down!

Yes, these last two days have been unexpected killers, in spite of the thunderstorm at dawn. Yesterday 37° and today 34° which felt even worse because of the humidity.
All finished now (they say...).

I think it smells like peas cooking and don't mind it actually. Maybe they should rename the station Smeli Iromn (Smelly Aroma)! : )

I would like to report that I've been thru Miromesnil three times this week and the mysterious corn smell is no longer there. While I would love to know what the smell was and what caused it, I'm quite relieved not to have to put my scarf over my nose and mouth while passing through!

I'm back in the city and proud to report that when I passed through Miromesnil tonight, the corn smell has not returned since I was last here in January. To whoever is responsible, keep up the good work! ;D
