I must be unusual then. I never wanted to be a 'princess' and to this day I hate the color pink. My best friends were always boys and I took pride in keeping up with all they did. The girls bore me to tears with their dolls and tea parties. The amount of times I almost knocked myself out falling off walls, and smashing into polls. But then later on I realized that I could open doors with a smile and a figure hugging dress, so my um.. attitude changed somewhat..hehe...

When you are 2-4 years old, fairies DO exist...good and bad. Our culture tends to educate children that they don't really exist, but many cultures keep their goblins, sprites, elves, earth spirits and various monsters alive and well. Western cultures incorporated them in gargoyles and carvings in their cathedrals and in their stories and legends. I don't think 'fairies' were invented, they were always there, we just gave them their images. Just don't go annoying the wee folk, M. Kerouac!

What an adorable little princess you have for a granddaughter, Questa. Does she still enjoy dressing up in ruffles and frills? All three of my granddaughters wear their princess outfits whenever they can, be it school, bed, or out to play in the yard. I know at least two of them believe in mermaids, as well.
My daughters never played princess, and neither did I. I'd much rather be in a pair of cutoff blue jeans, wearing no shoes, and riding my horse minus the saddle. Most of my friends growing up were boys, too. I remember thinking most girlie-girls were a bit boring. I was always out to prove I was just as tough and as talented as the boys, and certainly never had an interest in dolls.

Thank you, htmb. Her parents have lots of parties where different dress up themes are used. The whole family become super heroes, clowns, space aliens, wild west characters and the rest. They buy or hire outfits. After the parties her costumes get worn while she is playing or doing homework etc.

I love that one, but it doesn't look like they expect to get rich selling those fruits.

Thank you both. Also, Questa, belatedly commenting on your adorable granddaughter, whom I missed seeing since this stupid new version of the forum doesn't automatically take me back to the last unread post. She's a little dazzler -- that hair, that coloring! I took two photos of the peach kids, posting the better of the two above. As you can see, they have no playthings, nothing to distract them. Also, I looked around but didn't see any adult with them. Here's the other pic, which reiterates their resigned boredom:

Such a fun picture, Htmb, which I am seeing for the first time now. Love that first little boy, Kerouac. Those modern kids are sure enjoying a venerable childhood activity.

What a doll! I presume that's a christening, Mich? It's a wonderful photograph, perfectly showcasing her adorable face against the white gown & rich crimson of the woman's suit. The loving hand on the left adds just the right note to complete the photo.

This is our Goddaughters baby, so I am now GG (grand godmother!) We have always taken our role in our Goddaughters lives very seriously providing lots of love and support. She was in the arms of her Great grandmother and the hand is one of her Great Aunts that travelled especially for the occasion from North Carolina.

This was about 6 months ago, she loved having her photo taken then and now as soon as she sees a phone or camera pointed in her direction, she is all smiles! Thank you htmb! she is a joy in our lives.

Actually, she was most perturbed because we were sitting at the top of the football stadium, row 81, and her father had just made her sit down, rather than take a long tumble. Then here's this strange woman taking her picture. At least she smiled for the photos I took with her father's phone.
