Enjoyed Fever Tree! Finally available here. I also preferred the "slim tonic". The diet tonic available here is horrible.

I stick to non-alcoholic stuff but always bring back a couple of bottles of duty-free for my son and his wife. The standing order is Bombay Sapphire. I just like the interesting bottles it comes in.

I did mean his lonely LIFE, though. Shyness can be a life sentence. Glad to hear he had a lovely wife to keep him company.

Not MY personal trauma...my son's, but I went through it with him remotely by text!
We dropped youngest off at the coach station on Tuesday at 11:15. He was booked on a coach to Heathrow airport. He had to check in by 1725 and his coach was due to arrive at Heathrow at 1400.
The coach was an hour late. Russ wasn't worried as he had 3 hours spare, the coach company apologised and gave him a voucher, next return tickets to Heathrow free.
The driver stopped at Luton airport and announced that he had to take a 45 minute break. All the Heathrow passengers went crazy. Another coach was laid on...the delay added another 30 minutes to the journey time.
They hit traffic. More delays.
Russ got to the gate JUST in time to get his flight to Helsinki.
The plane was delayed on the tarmac....
Arriving in Helsinki Russ only just caught his flight to Vaasa. Whilst in the air he received a text from Finnair to say that his luggage was still in Helsinki.
He was a bit stressed.
I was still getting texts from him until he arrived at Sofia's flat at 0200....
Anyway, the airline delivered his luggage on Wednesday morning so that's ok.

No matter the age of our children I think most/ many of us still internalise their stresses. At least I do. Anyway just slipping back to earlier discussions re G&T I recently learnt and agreed that a slice of fresh ginger takes it up to a whole new level... BUT the mixer is really important too- no quinine for the best drink.

Oh Cheery, what a saga! It is awful when you have no control over things like this. Really if it is travel stuff you just have to allow yourself to be floated along like a flower in a stream.. It is worse for the anxious loved ones at home who feel more helpless because there is nothing they can do Their worry and a vivid imagination cranks the blood pressure up a few notches, again not helpful. I find the best thing is to reassure the victim that he is having an adventure and will have a great story to tell when he arrives home. Adventures are never much fun at the time but make for great stories later. Without adventures life would bore us to death, right, folks?

I was cautiously optimistic throughout of course dear Questa. My boys are 42 and 38 but I'm still gripped with anxiety whenever they encounter a challenge...both are leading fairly unconventional lives. They didn't end up going along the route I had thought that they would. (I think that it's not unusual for children to surprise/confound their parents) If they're happy, I'm happy...she said unconvincingly....

Four firefighters woke me up out of a sound sleep at 3:00 in the morning, shouting "Fire Department" and pounding on my front door. I assume they were moments away from kicking in the door, and one appeared to be scoping out the other entrance with a flashlight. To further complicate things, a major storm was about to break and there was horrible lightening and thundering. Apparently, my household alarm, which had just been upgraded yesterday due to phone company requirements, sent a silent medical alert to the monitoring company who dispatched emergency services AND called and woke up my next door neighbor. If I wasn’t having a heart attack before, I certainly was in shock afterwards! As soon as they realized I was fine they left, moments before the torrential rains let loose. While I certainly am grateful for their help, and it’s good to know they’d be there in 12 minutes if I needed them, I am not happy with the alarm technician. I certainly regret these wonderful people had to come out on a false call!

Hell's bells! htmb, What a way to wake up.You must have been shaking for ages after that. I hope you give the company a stern word or two. At least you know the Fire dept are on the ball.

Questa, shaky describes the feeling exactly. Kind of a shock. As soon as I said goodby to the firefighters and shut the door I started shaking all over. I don’t recall ever having that experience before. Lasted about two minutes as I continued waking up and started checking the inside (and also looking for possible leaks in my nearly finished roof repair).
My neighbor told me this afternoon that she saw both an ambulance and a fire truck outside, so there must have been even more people here than I’d first thought. It’s standard protocol in our city to order both fire and emts in a medical emergency since fire crews tend to be more numerous and locally situated. They go into action until medics arrive with an ambulance and more equipment.
I’ll speak with the local company on Monday. While I’ll definitely let them know what happened, and tell them I’ll expect them to cover any charges, I’m also in a bit of a bind. I’ve done business with the local group for about 25 years. They are a small, family-owned and run company of good, decent people. I’ve watched the son grow from a teenager, to a grey-haired father of adult children. He either made a mistake on Friday, or the new router malfunctioned. I remember it was giving him lots of trouble during the installation. I guess we’ll see on Monday. In the meantime, I’ve consulted the monitoring center and we have a temporary plan in place.

I would imagine that the company has insurance against malfunctions.
When I lived in a taller modern building, the police came banging on the door in the middle of the night once. There was a fire in the underground car park with lots of smoke. They just told everybody to open their windows and stay in their flats. There was no huge damage, but the lifts were out of service for at least a week and I lived on the eleventh floor...

Aw...didnt you just go and open it up ? We changed the batteries in all ours last week. I hope that Molly is better soon Mick, it's such a worry when they're ill.
We have a houseful today. Jeff's niece and family are coming for the day. Jeff rang last night and I asked him to find out what time they'd be here...she said 0930 (according to Jeff) Its now 1045...so I think she really said that they'd be leaving their place at 0930. They live about 2 hours away...
So I've been up since 0600 baking...hmph.

I have just spent 2 hours writing a guide book about Netsuke's trip to Burma. Then my screen went wobbily and I resorted to my usual method of handling the situation...hit all the keys together or in groups, run the mouse all over the place and employ some well-chosen words regarding the parentage of all computer makers, especially Windows 10.
However, the weather for the next 4 days is 40C for 3 days then 43C. I don't think I will be out and about in that, so I will start again. I am actually enjoying re-living my short time in Burma. Can someone show me where the button is that saves a draft of what I have written...please?

I suggest you write it in a Word file and then cut and paste it into Anyport later. That way you can save as you go along and will also have it if anything happens to Anyport.
