My wife's is at the garage forvmaintenance and minor repair. Not the car she just bought around 6th March 2021?? Surely not. Or, was it second-hand and bought foetstoots?

In addition to our recent flat tire, our tire pressure sensing system hasn’t been operating properly, and in fact the only time its warning light on the dash WASN’T illuminated was when we got the flat!
Which we detected in the usual way, by noting pulling of the steering.
And a noise we’ve been noticing more and more coming from the rear of the car, is looking like it might be wheel bearings. As we only have the one car, and live about ten miles from the nearest repair shop, we don’t want to leave it for days for a repair.

The one she bought this week end is due to arrive in september ! It is a game of musical chairs. Mrs Whatagain gets her new car (hybrid Merc), the Fiat goes to miss Whatagain. Her dilapidated second/third hand Polo goes to Poland or Morrocco i expect. The second daughter gets nothing since she is due to take her driving exam since... and she doesn't seem interested. The Porsche stays mostly at home. Too big, too noticeable to park in the street. Sad but true, so she takes it when she can be in a closed parking. To be comeye my own car is a Renault Espace that i dislike quite a lot. But you don't look a given horse in the mouth, do you ? So i am happy to have it, but i loved the Seat Alhambra i had before.

Wheel bearings are cheap and easy to replace, or at least were on older simpler cars. I've done the job myself.

I found my prescription for glasses, which dates just from 3 March 2020. The internet informed me that ophthalmologist prescriptions remain valid for 5 years in France, so no problem there. But I don't think that I went to get my glasses until May and now I have to check if my mutual insurance pays more than once in a 12 month period (not that it pays nearly enough to cover the full cost, of course).

My beloved had a painful heel, so he developed a limp. Which gave him a sore back....
Anyway he has been resting for few days being thoroughly spoilt and waited on hand and foot. The heel pain has gone but his back is still sore. I usually take the dog out once or twice for walks every day (11am and 7pm)...Jeff usually takes him for a couple of walks too (7am and 3pm). Obviously Jeff can't take the dog out so I'm doing 3 or 4 walks daily...have been since the Saturday. The killer is the 0700...I'm not an early morning person...and the 3pm is the dog's BIG walk...so what with nursing a poorly husband and getting the housework, shopping and cooking done Im absolutely knackered. One good thing...our son had been really low lately but because he worried about his poor old grey haired Mother trudging through the wind, rain and mud...he's joined me, so we're both getting lots of exercise. Not really able to relax until the evenings. We've been trying to wear the dog out with an extra long walk at 3pm so we are skipping the 7pm (sssshh! don't tell the dog)
I really hope that Jeff's back gets better soon.....

When I was working shifts and didn't have a lot of time I used to take the dog out on the lead but I'd ride my bike. Get him jogging a mile or two and he soon calmed down.

Not got a bike, he'd probably try biting the tyres....(the dog, not Russell). The main reason that we have so many walks is because the dog won't poo in the garden.

Do you have discount glasses shops in Paris? I got my prescription and took it to an “Eyemart Express”, tried on a bunch of frames and chose two that looked pretty good on me and they installed progressive lenses in both of them in less than two hours for $78 for the two pairs! No fancy coatings, but I’m wary of all those add-ons anyway. I had been using 3.25x readers for reading and 1.5x readers for driving (I’m very farsighted). It’s nice to finally have glasses that work for driving AND reading the gauges on the dashboard. For serious reading I still prefer readers, but at least I can see to push my cart through the grocery aisles, recognize people I know AND read the labels on the cans. I can’t have expensive glasses from the optician because I can’t be trusted not to lose them or sit on them. But next time I get my eyes examined, I’ll probably get two more pairs, perhaps one in tinted glass for driving on sunny days. For now I’m using clip-on polarized sun glasses over the progressives.

The main reason that we have so many walks is because the dog won't poo in the garden. Cheery - How did you find that out? Does he have any poop left when he gets home! Jokes aside, You may try bringing a bit of poo back with you next time, put it in a place in the garden and next time you set off for a walk, take a slow walk near the poo first. You never know, might just oblige.....unless of course you don't want poo in your garden in the first place!

Tod, if I were as good a gardener as Cheery, I wouldn't want a dog crapping in my garden. Besides, walking is healthy both for people and dogs.

Agreed bjd! I just think its so strange a dog won't poop in a certain place. Maybe unlike us when you gotta go you gotta go!

My parents' dog would only poop in the garage. It was her special place, very neat and easy to pick up for disposal. However, she loved peeing in the grass.

What an image....poo-hurling championships There are hefty fines for dog fouling here, there are so many folk with dogs it would be very unpleasant if people didn't pick up after their dogs. As it is there are a few folk who are irresponsible and leave disgusting little piles o dog poop all over the place...then there are the lorry drivers who park all long the main road and nip into the hedge there to leave a deposit...dirty buggers. Jeff continues to whimper and struggle. I think that he's starting to improve because he seems to be moving about more easily (especially when he thinks that I'm not looking) he needs to continue to rest for a few more days tho. My hip is aching quite a lot but I'm sure that it will ease with exercise. Good job cos I reckon I'll be on dog walking duty for a few more days yet.

Tod, we're fine with the dog not 'going' in the garden. I'm sure that if we couldn't get out then he'd adjust (or explode).

We got our first puppy, Juneau, an Alaskan Malamute, in the winter. My husband dug out a path in the snow out to the very back of the yard and kept a little circle shovelled. It was a training method to get him trained to go outside, it worked but it became the only place he would poop. Even on our walks each day he would pee anywhere/everywhere but rush back to poop in the backyard. Come summertime, we used to go camping at the Provincial Park. Poor puppy did not poop for 3 days until we got home and he almost broke the gate down to get to his spot in the backyard. The second winter we had him we moved to where we are now, the yard became everywhere quite quickly as there was no fence which thankfully resolved this issue for him.

Dogs try so hard to please their masters by following the rules. It is both endearing and infuriating.

After reading all the comments I thought I'd check where my dawg is pooping! I used to see a small deposit on the lower lawn but my gardener tells me she is leaving him a little present outside one of our bedroom windows - on the brick paving. He picks it up when doing his garden rounds and tosses it into the hedge. Thinking about this "toilet" habit with dogs, I know that the White Rhino has this peculiar system of going to the toilet in one place all the time. I don't remember the explanation though. As it is there are a few folk who are irresponsible and leave disgusting little piles o dog poop all over the place Their veterinarian will tell them in no uncertain terms that dog droppings left to dry up are not good for the dogs feet. They get something like a worm entering the paws.

I know that the White Rhino has this peculiar system of going to the toilet in one place all the time. I don't remember the explanation though. Social networking. A form of communication between and within groups. Something like that. And a question for those who were wondering and don't know the answer - why is a white rhino called a white when they clearly are not.

|
|
Post by tod2 on Mar 10, 2021 14:11:45 GMT
The answer is: It originally was called by its Afrikaans name WYD (pronounced Veight with a V instead of a W )- the word meaning WIDE and referring to its wide mouth. The Black Rhino has a more pointy lip on its mouth and funnily enough is not black, but the dark grey all rhinos have. Now came along Engleeesh! And they thought the man said WHITE , so in English it;s a White rhino.
Am I right Mark? I did that explanation from memory so.....Mmmmm

Don't Rhino have the disgusting habit of twirling their tails while passing a poo? I think this spreads the poo over a wide area but the point of the capability eludes me.
