Fell over for no reason indoors yesterday, as I say "Don't get old, it does you no favours". Not serious, but hurt my shoulder , grazed the elbow, bit worse, sprained my thumb. All on the right hand side so doing unbuttons etc., is a painful process. I'll live.

As long as you can still type, Mossie! Falling for no reason is indeed rather worrisome. Take care of yourself.

Get well Mossie.
Should you investigate why you fell - like balance issues - or it was just no cause ?

Past a certain age (not that Mossie is old yet), there are so many possible reasons for falling down unexpectedly that I'm pretty sure doctors cannot even determine what caused it.

I trust what Kerouac says is very true. It could be anything and a doctor may very likely order you to go through a series of tests in order to rule out all manner of possibilities. Should it reoccur, that's when I would explore it with your physician. Not to minimize your concerns as I say this.
I have found that I have to alter the way I would had normally gone about doing certain things for fear of losing my balance. I'm just not as agile.
Hope you have a speedy recovery.

I don't take much notice of doctors, when I see one I immediately get that look which says "You are at deaths door at your age, just find a nice quiet corner and curl up and die peacefully, don't make a fuss"

Whilst on the subject of falls Mrs Cactus was in my daughter's house and tripped over a picture on the floor and hit her side on the hard back of the sofa. Probably cracked a rib and in a lot of pain.

Dear oh dear you lot! So sorry about your fall Mossie - I watch my feet carefully these days and don't carry a tray laden with cups, milk jug , sugar bowls and tea pot, even though my arms can bare the weight.
Mick I feel for your missus - don't let them strap her ribs. Just a couple of anti-inflams should help a lot.

ANOTHER coffeemaker mishap! This time I remembered the filter basket, remembered the carafe lid, without which the filter basket can’t drain so it runs over onto the counter and floor, but I did not notice that the filter basket was a bit cocked inside its vault, so it DID run over and filled the carafe with grounds at the same time as spilling onto the hot plate and countertop. Fortunately I heard the sizzle and hastily unplugged it, but really! How many ways are there that I can f*ck up coffee!?!
Sorry Mossie, about your fall, and Mrs. Cactus’s ribs. Ouch!

Kimby, when you move to a nursing home, you won't have to worry about that anymore.

Kimby, can't you ask your husband to deal with the coffee machine until you get over this "mishap period"?

Mr. Kimby sleeps poorly, and often gets his best sleep after I wake rested and raring to go before 6 AM. The best solution is for me to set it up the night before. IF I remember.
But we have had disasters doing it that way, too. Once the coffee maker reservoir sprung a leak overnight, and the water flooded across the Formica countertop and got absorbed into the particle board backing of the backsplash, causing it to swell and bulge in an unsightly way. With renters arriving in less than a week, we had to scramble to make the repair. Of course the Formica pattern was discontinued, so we had to carefully pry off the laminate from the bloated particle board and re-glue it onto plywood to remake the back splash.
Maybe someone is telling me to stop drinking coffee!

That sounds more like flu (or Covid?) than a cold, Whatagain. You don't get fever from ordinary colds.
Kimby, it is essential that your coffee be ready when you wake up? Can't you wait 10 minutes and prepare it when you are "raring to go"?

I am not surprised you have caught a bug - all the travelling has to expose you to much more than the person going to the shops and back. I read the article that showed us Covid can get through a mask in about 6 minutes so 'Flu is likely to do the same. Sorry you feel so frot. Please take care with fluids and aspirin.

The gas bombola buried in the yard ran empty this afternoon, after two years away I had no idea how much was left. Now I know with great precision! I called the gas company and they said they could possibly have a truck out sometime today but it's now almost 17:30 and my hopes for being able to cook dinner or take a shower tonight are fading. I've got a nice fire going in the fireplace in the kitchen so at least the upstairs will be warm tonight. Gas prices are insane now in Italy, it won't be cheap, even though I told them to only half fill the tank.

Cold showers are supposed to be good for you.

Post by fumobici on Nov 15, 2021 17:07:14 GMT
In the same way that being flailed with whips ornamented with big fish hooks might be, I suppose. A few years back here the same bombola had had a gasket perish while I was away and all the gas (around €500 worth!) had leaked out while I was gone. I was in *desperate* need of a shower after a nightmarish journey, so desperate I took a cold shower just to be clean. I literally still suffer bouts of PTSD just thinking about the tortuous Hell I endured.

You could always heat some water in your kitchen fireplace to get you by, couldn’t you?

You could always heat some water in your kitchen fireplace to get you by, couldn’t you? Yes, in theory I could. It's not going to help me take a shower though.

No, but a warmish bird bath beats the alternative.

Washing with just a washcloth is called a "toilette de chat" in French. You don't actually have to lick yourself, though.
