It’s a 2004 car so not as sophisticated. I bought it last year as it had only done 8,000 miles in all that time, indeed 30 miles between the last 2 MOT’s. RAC said so.

You must remember Mark that I’m not a real man because I know so little about cars. It is very easy to pull the wool over my eyes. Indeed, possibly the whole sheep. My talents lie elsewhere...

Grrrr! Yesterday, my laptop stopped charging, and I had to hurriedly shut down. The usual light in the charger was on OK, but all the signs were that nothing was getting through to the laptop battery. Hoping it wasn't the connection socket wearing loose, I even changed the fuse in the power plug: still no "charging" light on the laptop. So I went online and ordered up a new charger from the laptop manufacturer (£50!), and went off to do something else - and came back to find it charging merrily away. Still, it'll be good to have a reliable replacement to hand for the future. I suppose. If that socket isn't wearing too loose. My laptop battery was running low really fast so I bought a replacement. It cost 84€ and empties just as fast as the old one!

Came home in a rainstorm last night in the car and didn’t hear the warning sound that I had left the lights on. Probably have a flat battery this morning..... I had the EXACT same thing happen to me this past week. Mine did not die completely thank goodness. T. was able to charge it thank goodness, but I had to miss a gathering at a friend's house because he wasn't home when it happened. So unnerving when it happens unexpectedly.

Kerouac - Since installing Solar we have learnt a heap and a half about electricians. There are those that can mend a fuse and then there are those that qualify to renovate the entire electricity board of a city......You know what I mean. Boy , does one have to be careful!

I got half of the work done, but I will have to decide to pay big money for a real electrician to work on my circuit box. Small time electricians are not authorised to touch such things for insurance reasons.

Sounds very annoying. It’s always quite aggravating to have to pay for something unexpected, especially when ones safety might be threatened if the repair isn’t made. One of the "joys" of owning your own home. It seems like there’s always something that is falling apart and needs to be fixed. Hopefully your light fixture that went rogue has now stopped turning itself on.

I am in complete agreement with Casimira Kerouac. The beach house belonging to my sons partner was left in dire need of an electrician when her father fell ill. Wires dangling dangerously all over the place. Our electrician was rushed there immediately on hearing sparks were flying and rectified the mess. Yes, it cost a "call out fee" but the house is now safer than ever.

I have every intention of paying. The only problem is that it is not at all urgent and I will keep putting it off. It concerns the radiator in my entryway, and as long as it is 40° I don't want it to work!

Another kitchen accident. At least it didn’t involve the stove!
We like an occasional can of pop/soda, and usually choose rootbeer or Dr. Pepper, but they don’t sell 6 packs anymore and it takes us ages to use a 12-pack.
I needed to make room in the pantry so wanted to cut down a half empty 12 pack carton to hold the remaining 6 cans. I set it on the counter and started cutting the cardboard with a razor blade, not realizing that today’s aluminum cans are much thinner than they used to be.
I sliced into a can which EXPLODED! Despite being in the carton, rootbeer shot up and decorated the kitchen ceiling, before arcing back to splatter all over the floor. Meanwhile, the 12 oz. can was leaking all over the counter and threatening to run down the cabinets.
What a sticky mess! It took quite a while to sponge down the ceiling, floor and countertop. It wasn’t until later when I tried to comb my hair that I realized the exploding can had given me a bath, too.
Arrrgh!

I really feel whiney about my trauma. Somehow I bit the inside of my bottom lip. This is not the first time I've done this and not only does it hurt, but how can it even happen? Anyway, when it does happen, the bitten place is slightly swollen, meaning that I'll manage to fang into it again, which really, really hurts.. Tonight, during my very nice supper, it happened twice. The second time I just gave up, since eating was certainly not a pleasure.

Hopefully whatagain has been busy or away on a holiday trip. The only problem is that it is not at all urgent and I will keep putting it off. We have the same situation but it is our air conditioning, has failed and needs replacement but with the cool weather we are experiencing and the end of the summer season quickly approaching, we will put it off too!

We have a a contract with Bitish Gas to have our gas boiler serviced every year. The past 3 years the engineers have sucked their teeth and said that we should probably think about replacing our combi-boiler (it's 16 years old) even tho we've never had any problems with it.
This year the engineer made a huge song and dance about the fact that the little plastic cross in the outside exhaust (to prevent birds nesting in there) is broken. Jeff has made a grid out of mesh but altho it is perfect the engineer (a subcontrator) has condemned the boiler. He said that he'd send the report to British Gas and that they would be in touch. Because of the contract we have we just have to pay a £60 excess for the part to be replaced.
However
Later the same day we had a call to say that we needed a new boiler and when would be convenient for an engineer to call to give us an estimate? Jeff realised that the person calling wasn't from British gas..but the sub-contracting company. So Jeff rang British Gas who said that they would send out an engineer to fit the plastic part in the exhaust and to check the work of the subcontractor. They also said that the subcontractor wasn't authorised to tout for work, just to do the service and report back.
When the British Gas representative rang the subcontractor he claimed that there were cracks in some insulation in the unit..which wasn't on the report..so the whole service has to be repeated (tomorrow). So it might cost £60 for the small part..or several hundred pounds for a new boiler.
It's frustrating because in the uk we are all being encouraged to change over to more sustainable forms of heating...rather than gas.
