Shouldn't she stop running for the time being?

Indeed. She is now in holiday in Marrakech and doesn’t run.

My eldest must take some medical exams. She is often at 100 heartbeats at rest and 200 when running. She lost weight and has a low blood pressure. Thyroid may be to blame so must check. Not at all petty! Hope it is minor, or at least fixable. 🤞

Thanks Kimby. Of course we are preoccupied... I think we never stop fearing/caring for our children, do we ? If we did stop, what kind of parents would we be...

Today I paid 865 euros at the dentist (but left with a new tooth). Then I went to the movies and my movie card didn't work. (Big technical deal not settled yet.) Then I sent my dental bill to my mutual insurance. I'll get maybe 250 euros back max. Then I broke a full bottle of soy sauce (50cl) on the kitchen floor. Due to the slope, some of it even ran into the hall. To console myself, I bought a ticket to the ballet next month. What next?

I am traumatized. About forty minutes ago I went into the kitchen and saw something out of the corner of my eye and thought, "Is that a mouse?" And then IT ran out the back door & I saw it clearly -- a RAT, an effing RAT!!! The last couple of nights the dogs have all barked at something at the same time well after they were tucked into their beds for the night. It's been warning barking, but they don't run outside. Perhaps the rat has been hanging arounnd. The other day a friend took me to Costco because she has a card. I was very happy because I was able to get the special dog food I give my dogs at a big saving. Unfortunately I can't put it in the tightly closing bins I have for the 35 lb bag because they're still full of a previous batch, so it's on the floor in a corner of the kitchen. I didn't figure that was a problem as the bag is made of very thick, heavy plastic. Now I'm remembering that another friend told me that when she brought a bag of this stuff home the first time, her little dog frisked around and sniffed the bag. The scent must escape the thick plastic and entice plague carrying rodents into my home.

I take it that's a reference to La Peste.
We are not amused.

We have friends who 2 rats. Their names are something like tatouille and tea (ratatouille and raté). Domesticated these are great animals. I must have a pic somewhere of my wife with a rat in her hair. But at home uninvited it is another story.

My pet of the day. I go to Wuropcar to get my rental car and the lady asks my ID a Driving license. And she does her job correctly. She tells me my DL is expired. Since October. So no car sorry. So I am struggling with trains. The good thing is that I have now 1 hour in Bologna. Then another train.

I am locked out of my Facebook account. Can’t seem to log back in.
I’m wondering if it’s because I chose to go ahead with a word choice that FB may have flagged as racist or demeaning, but I used it accurately.
I was warning a friend currently traveling in Egypt at the Great Pyramid to beware of unauthorized “camel jockeys” as we were robbed by one when we were there….

I am relieved to hear this, and glad I didn’t try to change my password to get back in.
The timing may be coincidental, but it was eerie how fast it happened after they suggested I consider modifying my post.

I joined the road trauma club, having just received an email from Hertz España for my rental from Thrifty France, which gave me a Spanish car. The infraction was in Luxembourg where my car went 54 km/h in an urban area, adjusted to 51 km/h in a 50 km/h zone, which of course is kind of annoying in itself. The Luxembourg fine is 49 euros, which is a bargain compared to France. Now I just have to wait for the real fine. Hertz España says that they will be debiting a 40 euro administrative fee for the huge effort of sending me the email. Fun.

She tells me my DL is expired. Since October. Gosh, Whatagain -- you were rather lucky it was the rental agency lady who caught that. If you'd been stopped with a road infraction while driving with an expired licence, it would have been worse consequences than having to take the train. The Luxembourg fine is 49 euros, which is a bargain compared to France. Now I just have to wait for the real fine. What does that mean, Kerouac? Will France also fine you because you have a French license, or is it some kind of European Union fine for your crazed recklessness? In news on the rat front, I hope I've solved the problem. The day after seeing the creature, I managed to empty out one of the two dog food bins by putting the contents into various canisters. I then emptied half the bag (all that will fit) into that bin. Then I rolled the bag up tightly and tied it inside another plastic bag. Since it now weighed half or less of its original 35 lbs/15.87 kilos and was much smaller, I was able to easily place it atop the refrigerator. Also, I have not opened the back door since Night of the Rat.

France wouldn't fine me because I didn't do anything wrong in France. The Hertz email just told me to wait for the fine from Luxembourg and not pay it until I receive it. I take this to mean that I might never receive it, which actually happens more often than not. I think there may be some real human being still working in the offices who decide things like "one kilometre over the speed limit isn't worth it."
Is the fact that "quick quote" no longer works also a trauma?

Yes, it is a trauma.
You can see that I used Quick Quote in my post immediately above yours. However, my default browser is Opera & the QQ would not work. I went over to Firefox in order to be able to use those two Quick Quotes in my post.
It has gone away in Opera before and then come back, but that's not really good enough. You are an Edge user, aren't you?

I'm waiting on a ticket my rental agency said I got from a speed camera in Florence. It was/will be sent by post so by the time it arrives here an added late payment penalty will be applied and the total will be a couple hundred Euro at minimum. The only two traffic tickets I've gotten in the last forty years have been in the hour or two I've spent driving to or from the airport in Florence. Seems like I'm not the actual problem here, I just go with the flow of traffic, as I was taught to.

If I receive the fine, I will use the postmark on the envelope as the start of the payment countdown.

The last ticket I got from Florence took over two months after it was postmarked to arrive in my mailbox. At that point, late penalties are baked in. Using physical snail mail for this is completely insane.

I got a ticket from Italy that was equally late and managed to find a human who told me not to pay the penalty for late payment but just the original amount. It was 15 years ago.

No speed measuring device in use is reliably accurate to a 1 km/h tolerance. Not even close to that.

When you get a speeding ticket in France, they count a bit of leeway. I got one for doing 57 kph in a 50 zone, but on the ticket I was charged for 2 kilometres over, the 5 was leeway. It still cost me 90€ and that was 5 years ago.

I've always found different countries have different allowances and tolerances they account for. There's not an EU wide standard. One weird thing was up until recently you were allowed in Spain got go up to 20km/h above the speed limit to overtake someone. I think in France you are allowed 5km/h up to 100km/h and 5% over 100km/h. Germany is 3km/h and 3% and Spain is either 3/3, 5/5 or 7/7 depending on the camera being used. They are the main areas I drive.

No speed measuring device in use is reliably accurate to a 1 km/h tolerance. Not even close to that. 1 I’m/h after removing the tolerance. Saying like 66 measured, 61 retained so 1 km/h above limit. Thus you get the PV. If I had been driving 65 I would have been fined…
