I got a flat tire when driving at 100 km/h yesterday. Not a nice experience.

I'll say! When it got fixed did they find the cause? Rusty nail?

A screw. But a big one. As long as it stayed in the tyre there was no problem but when it got ejected the tyre went flat in seconds.

This is a guillotine for sausages. very handy to make thin slices of saucisson for the apéro. and there is mi finger. apparently it is the second time I did it. some machines I should not be allowed to use.

I finally bought a pair of mesh reinforced kitchen gloves for me to wear when I’m using my really sharp knives or a box grater. I usually wear one glove on the hand that’s most likely to be sliced off. The gloves have saved me many times.

My mind is not sharp enough to think of that !

Now you know! My children gave me a knife that is so sharp I could cut off my finger without realizing it. Thus, the gloves.

I still only risk my fingers with a mandoline. The protective tool is too inefficient, so I usually have to use my bare hands to use the slicer.

I volunteered to take deviled eggs to a party that will take place tomorrow. Accordingly, I hard-boiled 55 eggs today, cut them all in half, then used all the yolks to make the filling. Thinking ahead, yesterday I bought a little set for piping the yolk mixture. When I got it out today to use it, I found that the bag was sturdy, which was a relief, and that one of the tips was just right for piping the egg goop. But then I found that the hole that had been cut into the bag to receive the tip was far too big & the tip just fell right out. Not pleased.

I worked in a country town where the old butcher did his own slaughtering and dressing of the cuts. He had lost the tips of all his fingers and his left thumb was a mess. He would say it was Natures way of telling him when to retire...when he had none left.

I broke a tooth today, about the last molar that hasn’t been crowned or implanted. I hope it can be crowned which costs about a quarter of what the implant process does.

Depending on the colour you can repair them remotely. At least the blue tooth can.

Kimby- I would definitely go for the cheapest option. Even a patch job as nobody can see the tooth - Can they?

This morning I went to the post office to send a rolled-up painting in a tube to our son in Canada. The post office's policy of replacing humans with machines has a few drawbacks. It took me about half an hour, even though I know how to use a computer or smartphone. I believe the problem is that I just don't think in terms of yes/no and if a box doesn't need to be filled out in my opinion, I don't. There was no financial value but I still had to type in 1€ or the machine kept refusing to accept it. I had to get 4 customs forms. Much frustration later, it cost me 41€ to send the thing, given that the tube weighed much more than the painting, one that our son had done when he was about 16. And I still have to return to pick up my receipt -- the clerk couldn't scan the address barcode with her smartphone because the tube is round! She said she would do it later. The long lineup waiting to be helped probably influenced her.

New technology is not all it’s cracked up to be.
But it’s cheaper than paying people.

Usually this kind of crap foisted on the public & on the human employees who wind up monitoring the crap and helping the public is a result of slick salesmanship, rather than an intelligent assessment of possible savings.

I read that in a chain of supermarkets in Belgium they are getting rid of the scanning machines and self paying. Too much theft and too many people didn’t adhere to the self scan.

Kimby- I would definitely go for the cheapest option. Even a patch job as nobody can see the tooth - Can they? The tooth is mostly amalgam. The remaining tooth is cracked in many locations, so any patch would be temporary at best. I have an appointment next month to get it crowned. At least the rough edges aren’t tearing up the side of my tongue. I do carry orthodontic wax in my toilet kit for dental emergencies. I used to carry oil of clove too for dental pain, but never had to use it and now have lost track of the little vial.

The last time my crown fell out and I went to get it put back in, they said that it was hopeless because the base was cracked and they would have to pull everything out. Which is what they did, so I ended up on the implant road...

I had a problem with an amalgammed tooth recently as well. The material of the tooth and that of the amalgam don't have the same density so the tooth ended up cracking after many yaers, bacteria went inside the crack and it got infected. The dentist cleaned it all out and patched it all up with whatever now replaces amalgams.

I guess the happenings of this evening need to go in both Petty Personal Traumas and in Something good happened today.
The dogs and I went out for the afternoon walk. As usual, I let them go off leash so they get more exercise and stimulation. We were on one of our usual routes which takes us on the road up the big hill. We were coming back down when I realized that that Harley, in his usual leprechaun now-you-see-me-now-you-don't way, wasn't with us. Not a problem, as he always either catches up or miraculously appears in front of us.
Well, this time he didn't show up after I called him a bunch of times and came very slowly down the hill, hoping to see him. The good dogs & I came on home. I made sure they had food and fresh water & went back out to find Harley. No luck.
Came back home and left the heavy street door slightly ajar. Finally, in the last few minutes of daylight, Darla and Oliver barked at the gate. There was the wayward one, sticking his snout in. He pranced in, sat on the mat & smiled at me and wagged his tail before going for water & grub. I did not discern remorse.

This is Harley's MO -- in his mind, he is obeying if he catches up or eventually shows up. He watches me to see if I'm not paying attention, and then he disappears like a magic trick. He also does other stuff that I finally realized reflected what he thought we were going to do anyway, so that made it okay.
The last time he didn't go home with the rest of us, I had to go looking. He was sitting on the step of a house surrounded by the family that lived there. They told me he'd been just hanging out with them for hours.
