I'm after a new laptop as well and looking on German sites I see the screen measurements are always in inches with the metric size following in brackets.

I sporadically use Youtube for information and I've just gone back to it and found my adblocker (uBlock Origin) doesn't now block the irritating ads at the beginning. It's also now unsupported which means it won't be updated to block them again. I'd rather not have to pay a subscription for the few times I watch the thing so has anyone got a decent blocker? I've tried half a dozen other ones that say they do, but they don't.

Those ads are now an integral part of the videos.

has anyone got a decent blocker? AdGuard adblocker is working for me on youtube, Mark. Here is the google page on it so you can see stuff about its safety, how it works, etc., along with how to get it for your devices.

I use uBlock origin and it still works on YouTube for me.

bjd, I've tried all sorts with it and for me it has stopped. I have looked into it and found others with similar problems and followed what others have said to fix it. But without success. It seems it might be a Chrome/Google issue but still working without hiccups on Firefox. Bixa, I did try AdGuard a few days ago but maybe I didn't install it right or used a wrong link. I've now used your link and a) it worked, then b) didn't work, then c) worked again then d) at the very start of a video I get a flash of an advert probably in the split second before it is blocked. I need to go though the settings, restart again, close and open the browser etc and see what happens but for now it is ok.

Otite? Ear infection?

Yes, an otite is an earache.

Whatagain do not hesitate, do not pass go and collect $200 ! Instead get to a doctor and let him give you a very good powerful anti-biotic. 10 years ago - about, we were in Paris and Mr.Tod got an ear ache. He only told me it was very very bad and hurt even when he walked. I put him on the anti-biotic and during the night his eardrum burst releasing a huge amount of puss and blood. So this was good, but he has very little hearing in the ear.

Flies....
If we leave the back door open there are always a couple of little flies lurking on the fly screen just waiting to zoom in. We have fly swats lying around the house and one of us will spend a frustrating few minutes chasing the little b*st*rds around. The dog waits and grabs the 'sky raisins'.
We get them all...sit down, then somebody will open the back door and another will fly in aaaaurgh...
We have net dish covers over the fruit bowl and never leave food lying around..but always there are one or two in the house. Grrrrrr...

Cheery - we are pestered by flies every summer but this year I am going to follow a hack I saw on YouTube giving a recipe for a solution that will keep flies at bay. The main ingredient was a healthy handful of cloves. I'll have to look it up again for the other contents.

When we had a small fly problem at our old house I put a carnivorous plant, a Drosera bifurcata on the window ledge. Problem solved.

It is gnat season for me. They do no harm, but they drive me crazy flying out of the kitchen bin. Raid helps a bit.

I think the ones around the kitchen garbage can are fruit flies, Kerouac. Let their attraction to that garbage be their doom. Wait till there are a bunch of them, then spray them with Raid.
Real gnats will bite. They positively feast on me, as do all biting bugs.

Okay, I have a new trauma.
As you all know, I'm in the midst of moving. The lease for the new house will start on the 15th of this month, after which I'll scramble to get moved out of this house of horrors. Obviously, if I stay focused & organized, that shouldn't be such a big deal.
The street in front of my present house is more a long stretch of rubble than a street. This means that there is far more dust and noise than there would usually be on a paved street. Furthermore, I live quite close to the corner of the perpendicular street & often ask cab drivers to drop me off there instead of in front of the house. That's because there is a huge series of craters, usually filled with water, right at the corner & I see no reason for a driver to go through that if it can be avoided.
As you can imagine, the residents have long wished for the municipality to fix and pave the street correctly. (can everyone see where this is going?)
Today both sides of the street are being ripped uo preparatory to finally repair this long-standing mess.
Is it pessimistic and cynical for me to be fretting over the evidence I've seen around here in the execution of public works & the time involved?

Bixa - You describe my city to a T. The road in front of our house is used by school buses and the tar soon disintegrated leaving enormous deadly potholes. So bad that we went and bought bags of "instant tar" and filled the potholes in ourselves. Some people were so appreciative they stopped and handed mr.Tod a few hundred rand to help cover the expense. But, soon enough this filling also crumbled after a few months unfortunately. Came the elections and we got a new political party in charge - Our road is now properly fixed and one can drive along without fear of ruining ones tyres.

Thank you, Mick. Don't talk funny any more, okay. Sometimes we are like ships passing in the night here! I know I miss stuff all the time. Lugg, I'm moving from the rather rural town of Coatepec to Xalapa, which is the state capital. The two are only @ 15 km / 9 miles apart, but always at least a 30 minute drive, so not the quick zip over at a whim that I envisioned when I moved to Coatepec. Xalapa is a vibrant place known for the strong musical culture and for its many parks, besides the modern stuff you'd expect in a city. Here is a video someone must have made at dawn, judging by the lovely light & by the absence of pedestrians and cars. There is an awful lot of traffic in Xalapa.

That looks quite lovely. Strangely enough, a number of the street scenes and squares remind me of Antigua in Guatemala. But I guess that's not really strange at all.

Certainly has its attractions, one being the lack of high rise buildings.

Now that you mention it, yes -- I can see how it is similar to Antigua in some ways.
There are a few streets downtown that have a homey, established-neighborhood feel which is quite charming and even seems European. I sort of aspired to that area, but never found any housing that worked for me. But where I'll be living is less than two miles from the center.

Sorry, Mark -- I'd gone to google maps to measure distance and didn't see your post.
I don't know if the lack of tall buildings is due to protectiveness of the older parts of the city, or because of earthquakes, although I don't think (knock wood) that is much of an issue in Xalapa.
The tallest building in Xalapa is a 27-story office building, but it's away from downtown.
