What a shot! Just wonderful Lugg.
Kerouac - I think I found your beetle. If you Google ROSE CHAFER beetle you may agree that this is it. This living jewel is metallic green all over. Unlike most beetles, it flies with its wing-cases closed and has a special notch at the side to accommodate its membraneous flight wings. It often sits on flowers.

I love seeing bugs covered with pollen. It brings to life that whole pollination business.

Great picture, Mick! Also, it's wonderful to be able to really see a hover fly that closely, since they're such teeny little things. What big eyes it has!

Oh kind of doubt that. My last dog *loved* eating bees too. I think she treated the inevitable sting in her mouth much the same as I do a hot pepper— an interestingly piquant sensation.

You out did yourself Cheery! What wonderful pics. I do believe the other pollinator besides the Bumble bee, is a Wasp.

Gorgeous Cheery You out did yourself Cheery! What wonderful pics. I do believe the other pollinator besides the Bumble bee, is a Wasp. Not a wasp Tod but a hoverfly, I think its a marmalade hoverfly but the UK has over 250 types of hoverfly. No sting in its tail ! I find them fascinating - some like this one looks similar to a wasp but there are key difference - the antennae are short, they only have one pair of wings. Some look like honey bees and some like bumble bees.

Oh thank you Lugg! I Googled lots of similar looking insects and would never have selected the hoverfly.
