Beautiful poppy, looks like a proper opium poppy too. I've never seen one blooming so late in the season either. I love flowers like poppies that freely self-sow from seed like poppies will. You plant them once and they will march about the yard in successive years, popping up wherever they like. Columbines do this in my yard as well. It probably drives gardeners who are strict planners of how they want their flower beds crazy.

It's pretty big. If it weren't raining, I would go out to check, but from tip to tip horizontally is close to eight inches.
