I don't know if having a tattoo in Belgium makes you ineligible for donating your blood but my melanoma does. Ah! Thanks for that. It’s good to have a translater.

I'm interested in internet privacy enough to wonder about my footprint and especially where my image can be seen. It's curiosity far more than paranoia. At some time I bet a lot of us have googled our own name to see what comes up. Mentioned in places you'd never think of. No good with a common name though - but your/my face is different. An image search would pull up the same image only so it would take a facial recognition AI to recognise the face in different poses and after 25 years of being on the internet I wondered what would happen. I used a passport photo and also with Mrs M for comparison. I noticed this AI seems not to be able to access private areas on forums and things like private groups on facebook. That's a good thing and my image had no hits. Mrs M's though had a page full. None personal though, purely business related. Some she didn't even realise had been published. I think you get ten free attempts before you have to pay and also have to pay if you want to see the full website address of a hit. Passed an interesting half an hour. pimeyes.com/en

My boring name gets tons of hits on Google, none of them me. However, if you Google kerouac2, that bastard is all over the place and a lot of them are not me either.

There are a shockingly large number of dead old ladies who have my exact names -- first, middle, and last.

So I am continuing to enjoy GBM ( Great British Menu) on TV . The theme is the banquet celebrating the Paris Olympics and it struck me that we need a thread as it is coming up soon. I looked at the info out there which at the moment seems to be focussed on the opening .... and was wowed .
Any thoughts , anyone going . ?

I imagine quite a few Parisians will be renting out their apartments for large sums for a week or two and going elsewhere in July.

We are hearing stories of renters being evicted by the tenants so that they can rent at delicious prices... Doesn't seem légal to me but I was having apero during the news of TF1 so didn't catch the détails

There are tenant (locataire) protection laws in France so I don't see how they can be evicted for a few weeks. But all the Airbnb landlords are certainly rubbing their hands with joy.

Ah. I thought tenants were the owners, thanks. Tenants sounded like those who 'tiennent' to me... But with patrons being the clients I mustn't try the french angle...
I just saw it on the news, reading the subtitles and seeing the tenants unhappy. They looked young too, so they may be students.

I'm making more of an effort to reconnect with friends and relatives this year. Since the pandemic my beloved has been quite anxious about us/me going out and mingling, he's being protective rather than controlling. Anyway, with the death of another friend recently it's become even more important to me. So on Thursday I met up with another group of retired workmates...a different one from the 'Blood Bank Lunch Club' (it was the Blood Bank Survivors Guild until some of them died and we renamed the group). They only meet every 3 months...this one meets every 4 weeks. We just meet for coffee and gossip.. One of the 'girls' on Thursday mentioned the fact that she'd seen a lady I used to enjoy having a chat with in the tea room on our breaks..Anna...and she said that Anna had asked for my contact details. Now I'm meeting Anna next Wednesday I've not seen her for 7 years! I was having my hair cut on Friday, chatting to my regular stylist...and she asked if I'd be interested in joining the Pheonix Film club...they often show live stream plays from The National Theatre...she's seeing Chekhov's Uncle Vanya next week! I can't make that performance but I'm going to pop along there soon and find out about the upcoming performances. My niece is visiting on 15th for a few days, staying with one of my sisters..so I'm taking her out one day whilst she's here. We are going to nail down dates for me to go up to Glasgow for a few days in the summer. I really want to visit the Edradour distillery and Edinburgh...so she's organising a fun packed week for me. Jeff really doesn't like going out these days, and since he's had his teeth out he won't go to restaurants or pubs...understandable as he's quite self conscious. Jeff prefers his own company, pottering in the garage, playing his guitars or just being at home with me watching tv... But I've hardly been anywhere for months (aside from a couple of days in Glasgow) and I need to see my friends. When I went out on Thursday I kept having a little cough...not because I was ill, but because I'm not used to talking much these days! And I've ALWAYS been a chatterbox! Another thing..I've been writing letters to friends and family..I wrote to our granddaughter telling her all about my mother in law, her family and what a lovely woman she was...Vikki loved the letter and is keeping it to show our great grandchildren, to tell them all about our side of the family. I wrote to my nieces in Australia and my cousin in Cornwall...2024 is about staying in touch and getting out and about. Even if it's only in the UK. Excellent.

It's alwauys good to break out of a dormant phase. Once you start doing things again, you wonder why you had ever stopped.

Good for you, Cheery. If Jeff is worried about your health, he should be happy that you are out and about seeing people. It's well known that those with a social life and friends are healthier mentally, and thus physically, than people who are always alone.

Today I received a long message from our son's ex-girlfriend. We always got along very well and were fond of her, she has asked me to stay in touch. I don't think that she's trying to reconnect with our son. Anyway, I asked our son if he minded if I wrote to her and he's fine with it (whilst not interested in getting back with her). Do you think that it's ok? The young lady lives in Finland so it's not as if she's going to turn up at the door.

Sure, why not? If she'd like to stay in touch and you would, too & your son doesn't mind, there is no reason not to respond to her message.
If it turns out she really is just trying to get back into his affections, you can deal with that if & when it should arise.

I have just realised that I have been contributing to the bank of EDF for a couple of years. ( British energy supplier) Serves me right I suppose for not checking my bills more carefully. Next week I aim to get it all refunded. Pissed that they did not tell me I had so much credit but more pissed with myself for not checking.

EDF (Electricité de france) is my energy supplier, too, but they don't have a bank here. It must be a holdover for you when it was British owned.

Speaking of EDF, I got a bill yesterday telling me our electricity was being cancelled in the apartment in Bayonne. I called and discovered that another tenant was either moving or changing supplier and mixed up the meter number. At least, that's what I assume happened. The 3 meters are in a cupboard on the landing with just a number on them, no name. Anyway, a call to EDF sorted that out and this afternoon I'm going to Bayonne anyway and will check with the neighbours to see who made the error. EDF couldn't tell me because it's the new supplier who asks for the change.

Damn and Blast! I meant to use a capital R in the middle of my new name so you would all know Questa is still bringing sunshine and heat waves from the Great Southern Land. Is there a way that you can join Questa with QuestaR? I'd better go and get my notes...an intriguing few months starts...
