Since both wedding anniversaries and Cornwall have come up in the past day or two, I can add that we spent half our honeymoon in Fowey. At first we went to Scotland but it rained every day so we went as far south as possible. Just before the end of the train line, I asked a lady where she recommended we go and she told us she lived in Fowey. Since the train station was quite far from the town, her husband gave us a lift and they dropped us at a nice bed and breakfast place they knew. That was in September 1978!

Happy anniversary from me too! We had been married 8 years in 1978 and my son arrived that same year on 2nd September. When I look at quaint Fowey on Your Tube I see nothing very familiar. It seems to have expanded in all directions. My fondest memory is leaning out of our hotel window and watching a man in a small boat drag up his lobster pots from the crystal clear water below.

Yes! A great start to your marriage. Happy 46th anniversary next month. Actually, we married in June but the honeymoon was 3 months later when we met up in Europe.

Good news!
This morning my sister took me to a garden centre..we went to take her mind off the fact that she was seeing her cancer specialist this afternoon for the results of her latest scan. Anyway. She's cancer free! Soooooo happy. It's been a long road as she was diagnosed in 2016 with endometrial cancer...just when our eldest sister died with lung cancer. It's been a bumpy ride with lots of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery..an inoperable metastatic cancer in her lung next to her aorta..but the chemo has got rid of it...it's such brilliant news! YAY!!!

Cheery we are joining you in celebrating as Mr.Tod saw his oncologist yesterday for his three monthly blood check and the result is the cancer is "undetectable". We are over the moon and just living our best.

Brilliant news tod, it's a huge relief isn't it? My sister says she just wants to 'quietly absorb it' which we all respect. Thank you for your kind comments my darlings...I just thought that I'd burst if I didn't say anything x

You all probably don't remember this, but on March 17, 2020 I proudly bragged about a new acquisition: anyportinastorm.proboards.com/post/332161/thread (reply #63) It has had pride of place in my last house & in the present one. Now, as I pack up to go to the next house, I had to get creative in safely packing that piece up. Only Spanish speakers will find this amusing. This is the box it's in:

Wasn’t sure where to put this, but visited my OBGYN this week to have my plumbing checked out and on getting home and reading the doctors notes in My Chart it is evident that somehow they think I have had a hysterectomy! It says that at least twice in my patient record. I would think I would know if I’d had a hysterectomy, but wouldn’t you think my doctor would know, too?
In her defense, I’ve only been seeing her for a couple years. But really! I called her nurse to set the record straight.

Not about nursing but my father realised that the ‘authorities ‘ had written in his file that he had filed for divorce. He was bloody shocked.

When my father was in and out of hospital in his last year, he wanted his own proper nightwear rather than the skimpy hospital gown. His notes were on a not well-designed card which left few obvious spaces for them to note incidental info like that. Which is how I found that the over-large box headed "Sex" was where the nurse had written "Likes to wear own pyjamas' My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

When my father was in one of the several nursing homes my sister & I found for him before finally lighting on one intelligently and humanely run, we asked a night manager to see Daddy's file. On the front in big bold letters was DNR. When told it meant "do not resuscitate", we looked at each other in shock. Of course neither of us had directed that to be put there. It turned out that some lowlife, shithook, ego monster of a doctor had taken it upon himself to decide.

I just learned that - in the US at least - an advanced directive DOES NOT include a DNR order. The EMTs who arrive at your home when you call 911 are mandated to do whatever they can to save you. UNLESS you have a DNR order signed by your doctor taped to the refrigerator.
Once you are delivered to the hospital, your health care proxy can make the decision to pull the plug, but without that separate order, the medics are going to break ribs trying to restart your heart.
This is why the hospice nurse told us that when our loved one died, don’t call 911 right away. Sit with their body till it begins to cool. That way they can’t do any unwanted heroics.
BTW, my doctor said she will write a DNR for me, if I want one, but not before I turn 80.
