Red Rock Canyon is a short drive (<30mins) from Las Vegas, Nevada. This was a really nice ride of approximately 15 miles - 5 miles of steep climbing and then switchbacks and down hill the rest of the way - REALLY fun!

Oh,another one!! What a contrast from the Sin City video!! This one not as voyeuristic in appeal as the one on the Strip, but, strikingly beautiful and really showcases how just 30 miles or minutes away one can go from sin and sleaze to seemingly pristine, naturalistic (not to mention heightened!) sweeping vistas! I remember this area well. Fabulous soundtrack too!! How do you go about transporting your bike btw? Thanks for this Imec.

Thanks, Imec. How strange to see people jogging and walking along the side of the road -- it looks like the middle of nowhere.
I had expected the rocks to be red coloured, like in nycgirl's pics of Utah!

I really enjoyed watching your rides IMEC. Cool carrying case for your bike! A worthwhile investment for you. I have never wanted to go to Las Vegas, but while watching the Oscar's and seeing Cirque de Solei perform and then your videos all in one week has changed my mind. I may have to look at one of those four day trips to experience this.
Cheers!

I don't know what makes people so allergic to Las Vegas -- the only thing I would find weird is if somebody actually wanted to live there (unless they were a hooker or a croupier). Anyway, thanks for the still pictures of the red rocks, because I found myself looking for them (and not finding them) during the entire video.

Thanks mich! Yes, there's a lot more to LV than many people realize - please refer back to the sin city thread for a post in which I will elaborate further.
k2, most observant of you! You are dead right as the video was made on sections of the downhill ride where the red rock was not visible. The uphill ride was a bit, er, slow and the video a bit, er, dull.

Anyway, thanks for the still pictures of the red rocks, because I found myself looking for them (and not finding them) during the entire video. I find this a bit extreme an attitude about people wanting to live there. I've known a good number of people who have been lured to live there for a variety of reasons, many of them far less weird and not associated with the sleazy side of life in any kind of way. A number of service industry people, chefs in particular, whom I've known, have been recruited by well known restaurants here in NOLA and found living out there quite comfortable and love the desert climate. I spent a month there in 1976 and aside from deliberate forays downtown and to the Strip, the neighborhoods I visited could have been suburbs of Phoenix,Tuscon or other major desert cities out West. (Other than the presence of slot machines everywhere). Although, not for me,just as no suburban life suits me no matter where it is,the presence of the casinos and other major businesses are just part of these people workaday life. (I have also encountered the same kind of attitude from people over the years who question why anyone would want to live in NOLA,they have no idea of life outside of Bourbon Street or the French Quarter. Hurricane Katrina enlightened some, but, even then,it was not enough to squelch a lot of ignorance which persists about the city in general, IMHO.) Cool bike bag Imec ,and as Mich mentioned,a great investment. The canyon rock pics are stunning.

That looks like a great ride (although I would die on the uphill part). That's a nifty set-up for your bike. Love the photos, too. You didn't hit any tortoises, did you?

You didn't hit any tortoises, did you? Didn't even see any . Nor any of the purported burros - although I did see a fair bit of wild ass in town...

Totally, extremely, enjoyably fun & cool video, Imec, plus a brilliant choice of music to match the ride. I also particularly enjoyed it because I only got to the outskirts of Red Rock Canyon when I was in Las Vegas in July. just looked -- yes, I do have (unprocessed) pics I was dying to see the rest of it. At that time of year, you need to choose the time wisely. Hear, hear, Casimira! Las Vegas has some of everything and normal people have made it a place to live. You make a really incisive point about not dismissing a place based on a its stereotyped image.
