I thought these fellows had gone for good because all the water meters have been installed in our village. But they are working in a hamlet on the way down to the main road, the D908. This week Mrs Faz had to turn round and drive back because they were digging a hole in the road. It is beyond their wit to put up a sign here saying road cosed.
Just as it is beyond their wit to warn us this morning they were going to cut the water.
Grrr.

As I recall, you failed to pay the proper bribes last time.
You must simply tell them that you were going to invite them all for a pastis but that it is impossible with the water cut off.

Maybe I could pass on some of my bacteria to them.

I remember the story clearly...heehee. Baz, it's never too late for the requisite bribes. Did you ever read Dirk Bogarde's 3-volume autobiography? Volume three, An Orderly Man is all about his move to farmhouse life in Provence. A wonderful read. He learned how to properly share a drink with the local workmen.

I enjoyed Bogarde's three books very much. He is a good writer. We do have our builders (one of whom is our closest neighbour) for an annual meal. It seems good insurance even though we are not having any work done. They love it, love it that I do the cooking. They always request a Thai meal.
