The wonderful ,inspiring Postcard of Spindrift's trek in the Himalayas brought to mind W.Somerset Maugham's ,THE RAZOR'S EDGE.which I believe took place in India but in the second movie version takes place in the Himalayas. One of Bill Murray's first serious attempt's at acting.

I'm trying to think of a movie that's at least 15 years old -- one that takes place in the Himalayas, stars Brad Pitt?

Bixa, I think the movie is 'Seven Years in Tibet', with Brad Pitt and David Thewlis, 1997. It is based on the experiences of the Austrian mountaineer, Heinrich Harrer between 1944 and 1951. Harrer was a tutor to the boy Dalai Lama. It's a decent film, but I have problems watching Pitt in any film.
I am still most moved by Lost Horizon, directed by Capra and filmed in 1937. Perhaps because it was shot long before the Chinese takeover and the commercialisation.

Has no-one else on this forum been to Nepal?
I invariably think of Lost Horizon when I'm travelling in the mountains. I still haven't seen the turquoise blue high altitude lakes....some are in Nepal but most are in Tibet. Perhaps Shangri-La is really lurking around some corner. I felt I'd reached it when I trekked into Lo Manthang. Nothing seemed to have changed for centuries. I am completely fascinated by everything I see. I have learned a lot but there's so much more to understand.

I am very sorry to say that no, I have not been to Nepal yet. It is awaiting my return to travel.
