I was insolent and sneaky when I was in school. Teachers either loved me or hated me for this, but they did know that if any action was taken against me, they were in for much worse trouble. Because of this, I never ever received a detention slip, and that is what makes this subject fascinating to me. <--- click for more

Funny, the only schools I ever had detention were French schools. Usually for leaving the school grounds when I wasn't supposed to. I don't think it was a big drama with my father but my mother didn't like it.

I'd be proud to be the parent of the child that generated that reprimand letter!

My mother was always proud about such conflicts as well.

i only got detention (during lunch breaks) in the US - for being late for class, always the same class. it was my first class of the morning, and as i only could get to school by being driven by my host parents, who were of course also driving their own children to their schools at the same time - but my classes started first, it meant that if any of the four (host father or mother, host brother, host sister, and me) was late, i'd be late for that class.
i don't think we even had anything like detention in my german schools, as it would also have meant for the teacher to work during break or in the afternoon. when i was younger, we either got written reprimands for the parents to sign (though it had to be something serious) or were just told off, or if it had directly to do with our school work, got a bad grade... i think...
