Some years back now, my mum gave me the breadmaking machine my brother gave her for Xmas one year. I stuck to the recipe they give you with the gadget. What a tiny little loaf of bread I thought. Next thing I was adding more of this and more of that and before you knew it I had glued the lid to the lower half, had bread mix running over into the cavity and in short, make one hell of a mess.
Not admitting defeat I cut down the amounts and this last week made a beautiful banana bread for my house maid and the next day made another one for my gardener. I'm so proud I can now bake without a recipe! Yipee!

I have never been able to follow a recipe. My nature obliges me to make modifications, no matter how simple it should be.
It is not always a pretty sight, but often the result is brilliant.

i am usually too lazy to follow recipes. i tend to experiment, or that is, use as few ingredients and as little work as i think i can get away with.

The only times I follow a recipe is when I'm making something for the first time or, if it's something I've made before that I know comes out perfectly when using the recipe.
I do like reading cookbooks and recipes, but more for learning and inspiration than anything else. And very often, I take some meat or vegetable I got for one purpose in a completely different direction during the cooking process.

What gets me are the details like 15 cl of this or 2 tsp of that.
