Okay. Looking forward to the report, but not to the part where I will be sick with jealousy.

I had beef carpaccio that I bought yesterday 50% off due to the expiration date. I absolutely love the olive oil/lemon/basil sauce that comes with it and I must experiment on making it myself.

Went shopping for the freezer in Iceland and found their own deep pan pepperoni pizza for just £1!
You can’t go wrong at that price and it was absolutely excellent! Fantastic bargain!

Just the one because we had no idea what it would be like plus it takes up a lot of freezer space.

I had a ham sandwich garnished with chopped cabbage and carrots, red onion, mayonnaise and a slice of cheddar. It was a thick sandwich.

I had a nice warm baguette from the boulangerie and had a combination of saucisson à l'ail and a very ripe camembert.

No problem with stairs any more.
Any pizza and most other things near San Marco are grossly overpriced and gross, period.
Ordinary people in northeastern Italy and neighbouring regions were more likely to subsist on polenta.

That is something I would eat with pleasure.
Today I had chicken livers sauteed with onions, poblano pepper, & garlic, all finished with a big splash of red wine. To accompany the livers I had the leftover potatoes and cole slaw from last night. After lunch I made chicken liver pâté, so something to look forward to later.

I know that just about every place that serves mussels has mussels in curry sauce but they have never appealed to me. I just like the natural flavour too much.

Every Friday during Lent about a dozen or so Catholic churches in NOLA feature a fish fry.
Some are at lunch time, others in the early evening suppertime hours.
A friend of mine and I have been to three so far.
For $5.00 USD one gets a plate of 2 or 3 fair sized fried catfish, a starch of some kind, greens, a tiny salad and a piece of cornbread or homemade biscuit. Dessert is either a brownie, bread pudding or some kind of fruit cobbler.
Each Friday that we have gone the weather has been superb to allow for seating outside at long tables set up.

Bingo and fried fish! And to think that people have the nerve to criticize the Catholic church!
Joking aside, That sounds wonderful and a great bargain besides. Are they doing this to make money or ... ?
I know I've told this before, but Catholic school was how I got introduced to sloppy joes. This was in Indiana & I attended a Catholic school in a heavily unionized town. The dairy went on strike & many students at the school were in dire straits because one or both parents worked there. The nuns at the school mobilized to put on various suppers to make money to help those families keep their heads above water.
My own lunch today was huitlacoche cooked with poblano peppers & onion. I had that & cornbread with chile-flavored ricotta on the side. The cornbread came out really well but most of it is gone because Darla and especially Harley were so enthusiastic about it.

I'm not sure where the money goes Bixa. some are $7.00 USD as we found out yesterday.
It's a fun thing to go and do. We always end up talking with the different people who are there from neighborhoods around the city. Some of the parishioners we've met have attended that particular church for generations. And one gets to hear some real authentic New Orleans accents. More and more of a rarity these days. You would enjoy going to some of them Bixa but I suspect you'd rather be at a crawfish boil.

It would be even-steven for me, Casimira, as I adore fried catfish.
Many years ago, when I lived on State at Magazine, we used to go fishing in Audubon Park, back when the zoo was entirely open. Catfish were abundant, so I can probably still skin & fillet them, should you ever need my skills.
It does sound like a fun thing to do, not least because of getting to meet all kinds of people.

Today we are going on a small road trip to a restaurant we haven't been to in ages. It's on the water and their specialty is fried catfish (they serve them very thin). They also have a verity of other seafood. The restaurant has been there since the 1940's and passed on through several generations.
I'm really hoping that it's not too crowded because they don't take reservations and I'm not too keen on waiting in the hot sun. We have a backup plan if this is the case but, I'm really craving the fabulous food from the place we are intent on going.
Either way, it will be nice to take a small road trip as we haven't really been anywhere in awhile.
