Thanks to today's Google image, I understood where Cheerypeabrain's avatar came from.
I have never seen any Dr Who programs.

I'm a Dr. Who ignoramus, I must admit. I do remember trying to watch it a few times in the '70s or '80s, but just never got into it.

I could have written post #32. I would like to watch it now, but would feel compelled to start at the very beginning. Daunting!

No, you only have to start with the Christopher Eccleston season which is when they rebooted the series in 2005.

The France 4 channel is having its special 50th anniversary Dr. Who night tonight and I will be watching every bit of it. In spite of the geographic proximity to the UK, Dr. Who is just as unknown in France as it is in the United States. However, France 4 is proud that 800,000 people follow the series (out of a population of 60 million).

Absolutely. It had descended into a really feeble parody of itself before they shut it down the first time. The revived series are completely different: much cleverer writing and now digital effects are so much better: if you really want to try, some classic episodes of the new style are (and I'm no geeky enthusiast): en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Empty_Child - who'd have thought "Are you my mummy?" could actually make you jump? And it finishes on an outrageously old joke from WW2. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aliens_of_London - this had children "unzipping" their foreheads...!

Oh, I'm not sure if I approve of that episode with Matt Smith, David Tennant and John Hurt all playing the same person. I will surely need to see it again.
