Odendaalsrus Is the oldest gold mining town in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality in the goldfields of the Free State province in South Africa. It started out in 1912 as a ramshackle collection of farms and a central church that became a town. In April 1946 gold was struck on the farm Geduld near the town. This discovery was mentioned in Alan Paton's novel Cry, the Beloved Country.

Leffe. Old abbey. Good beer there. Leffe is my favourite beer when travelling in Europe. Lots of places in Paris offer Grimberger instead....don't think I spelled that correctly but you will know what I mean Whatagain. I still want Leffe.

Mineola -- both a "village" in the state of New York and a "city" in the state of Texas
aside: I never understand these designations! That "village" in NY has a population of 18,799 (2010 census), whereas the "city" in Texas has a population of 4,823 (2020 census). What gives?

Finningley - was part of Nottinghamshire but became part of South Yorkshire in 1974. Home to RAF Finningley which has now become Robin Hood Airport. RAF Finningley was known for having a long runway and was the home of the Vulcan nuclear bomber fleet. Known also as a training school for flight crew, my father was based there for a short time on his arrival from Kenya and before being posted to another RAF base to the south of Nottingham. I had several familiarisation flights there when I was a teenager and in the Air Training Corps.

Has a large student campus, part of the University of Nottingham and the site was used as a prisoner of war camp during WWI. Also the birthplace of Thomas Pierrepont, one of a family (Henry and Albert) of executioners. He served in this capacity between 1906 and 1946. He carried out 294 hangings in his career of which 203 were civilians, the rest military.
