Such a rare sighting Mossie! I have never seen a white dove. We have dozens coming to feed with the other beds in our garden - bread crumbs and fruit mostly - but they are all grey or a pinkish blue colour.

Wow ~ what a picture! Photographically great, with super composition & fabulously crisp detail. It's very cool to be able to see this bird so close up.

Lugg, they do not look caged? Or are they just out for some "fresh air"and a wing stretch? These African Grey parrots can live far longer than most animals. My cousin had one and called it Chernobyl. Must have been a warning not to go near it!

Lugg, they do not look caged? No they are not caged but not wild , they do go into their " cage " or roost at night otherwise they have the run of the whole of a Maldivian island My cousin had one and called it Chernobyl. Must have been a warning not to go near it! My grandma had one too - it was mean and I was scared of it as a child.

In Desford there is an attraction...'Tropical Bird Land' (I kid you not) they have all sorts of lovely parrots, many fly free, just going indoors at night or in very cold weather...even large macaws. They have one huge cage full of 'rehomed' African Grey Parrots...as you walk past you get told to 'eff off' in loads of different voices as they were all taught to swear by their original owners...always makes me howl with laughter.
Your beautiful picture reminded me Lugg x

With a little help from Enzo who fed them crumbs, I was able to get a close up of these starlings. Years ago I never really appreciated them, they were everywhere but now , at least in Herefordshire, they are quite a rare sight. Such beautiful colours and markings. live.staticflickr.com/65535/52415179517_7057434435_c.jpg

My goodness, you are so right about those colors & markings. I was particularly glad to see this picture as I recently bought this book for my mother. Whether or not you'd have any interest in purchasing the book, the descriptions in the link are fascinating. Starlings are considered an imported trash bird in the US, so I was amazed to read about their virtues.

Starlings are still common in France. Sometimes I get a horde of them at once in my garden -- they always seem to gather in large groups.

I won a "photo of the year" contest somewhere or other with a photo of a starling. I didn't know they were that pretty either until they swarmed me in Hyde Park. I confess that I had some crumbs with me, which I soon regretted. I do recall that J.K. Rowling complimented my photo on Instagram.

Come to think of it, to see a great flock of starlings settling down to roost on the buildings around Trafalgar Square at sunset was a common sight, but not now, I think. I've seen a few near where I live, but not in those numbers. Round here we did have a whole gang of tree sparrows a few weeks ago, which was like old times. And we have a substantial colony of green parakeets. My blog | My photos | My video clips | My Librivox recordings"too literate to be spam"

I've seen a few near where I live, but not in those numbers. Sadly I suspect the numbers are declining . Mumurations of starlings at sunset are amazing to view but again I have seen very few in the last few years. That is a terrific picture lugg. Thank you Mick. won a "photo of the year" contest somewhere or other with a photo of a starling Well done you K2 - would love to see it.
