I have taken up walking and try to get in a decent walk at pace every day. Been doing it for about 10 days now and surprised to find I have lost about 4lbs. Onwards and upwards! I need to lose about a stone and a half. Buy a Fitbit... By calorie counting I have recently lost just over 2 stones, very careless I know!

That is a good walk! Where were you, at home or travelling?
The other thing you are doing walking is building muscle tone, which is very important.

Am in Patagonia Lagatta. We went on a trail going towards the Fitzroy. To la Laguna de tres. Or something like it. Last km to the viewpoint took us 1 h 20. Hard.

Our daughters are both ill. Which allow us to stay 3 weeks in argentinia for one week of school holidays. Ahem.

In France, the fine if you get caught is 135 euros, just like a speeding ticket. But it is never applied.

Un one of the schools the director (directress ?) said ´ of course go it will be such an experience that is great for Marie ') and her mistress said ´ please bring us a postcard ´. In the other I kept a mail saying that due to multiple sick leaves ( with no replacement) of the teacher the examen of geography could not take place since so much had not been covered. If teachers are allowed to be sick why not kids ... but yes it is illegal.

kids here are allowed to be sick, and i suppose teachers aren't allowed to pretend to be sick either. i might still do it, though - it's just as i said, i think they are quite strict about enforcing those rules here, and i suppose it'd be hard to keep secret, the child wouldn't be allowed to tell anyone much of the journey if then it could become clear it was three weeks instead of one (just adding a couple of days at the beginning or end would be easier, i suppose) ...

there are exceptions where it is allowed to travel, in some cases, though - exchange programmes, sport competitions etc. - so maybe i should encourage agnes to become very good in some sport that has international competitions just in the places we'd like to travel ...

My brother and I were officially allowed to skip the last week or so of school twice when the family holiday was based on the sailing date of the ship from New York to Le Havre.

I have started drinking unfiltered (cloudy) apple cider vinegar with a little apple juice right before a meal. Many years ago - when I was in my early 20's, I read somewhere that Marlene Dietrich always swallowed i small wine glass of the stuff before eating anything. She had an hour glass figure all her life.

But all the sand is at the bottom.

Oh bloody hell Mark, what an 'African' affliction! As you may have discovered while up north, the men just love women with an enormous booty. All well and good, but my old man often remarks (as he gazes at the affliction)"How does she lie on her back?"

My brother and I were officially allowed to skip the last week or so of school twice when the family holiday was based on the sailing date of the ship from New York to Le Havre. Schools here recognize the learning involved in travel overseas. Children are excused from class but have schoolwork to do as part of the trip. Keeping a journal of each days activities, working out different coins and notes in the currency, shopping, visiting historical and geographical places and telling their stories and giving a presentation to class on return. Of course it depends on the children's ages. younger children might just record what planes they flew on or food they ate. My 10 and 12 year old grandkids seem to remember every waking moment of 2 weeks in Japan

I guess it would be hard for rikita and rikito to justify Patagonia for a language exchange when Spain is so much closer than Chile or Argentina.
My teeth are far too soft to attempt that vinegar cure. I use special toothpaste to protect my crap enamel. To be honest I don't believe in it either.

yeah well, germany is weird about these things. maybe it changes throughout the next years ... and of course it depends a bit on the school - i know some people who are here only half of the year, the other half they are either in the parents' home country or traveling around for work (they are musicians). their daughter goes to an expensive private school, and there it was possible to arrange this ...

Lagatta is right about tooth enamel being corroded by the apple cider vinegar. I swish plain water around in my mouth two or three times as suggested by the advocates of the 'tonic'. Gets rid of most of the taste too.

Three weeks ago my lovely sister told me that her cancer was back despite a year of chemo, surgery and radiotherapy. Obviously we are devastated but she took me to one side and said "Lizzie" (only a few people are allowed to call me that) "in 2018 I am going to be fighting cancer, and I think that you should fight your weight problem" so that's it. I can't back out now because I promised. I have, HAD 90 lbs to lose (set my own target, the slimming group say it's more like 75) . Three weeks in I've lost 9 lb. 81 to go.

I have been weighing myself every day since September, and I put it all on an Excel chart. Even if it has drifted down a tiny bit, there is nothing of which to be proud, but at least there are no illusions.

Beef stew with vegetables and bread and butter? Thats my sort of diet! I'm allowed. Beef trimmed of all fat, onions, carrots, butternut squash, potatoes and peppers cooked with oregano, bay leaf, pasata and stock. Thickened with a little cornflour. 2 slices medium sliced wholemeal bread from a 400g loaf spread with 1 teaspoonful of Lurpak extra light butter. Nah-na-nah-na-nah-na 😛

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll try not to be too boring as I've been here before many times and failed... However, doing it 'for' Sue makes it somehow seem more achievable. Goals.

Can't beat the old standby, diet and exercise.
I have an easy way, on my scales there is a little adjustment knob. Twiddle that the right way and the weight just falls off.
