We haven't had a new category here for awhile, so I thought it might be interesting to have a collection of mannequins, dummies and assorted humanoids. This first set of photos from Little India (Faubourg Saint Denis) isn't great since there was too much daytime reflection on the windows, but I'm sure the pictures will get better as we go along. Nevertheless, I like these "old school" plaster creations, probably made in Mumbai 30 or 40 years ago.

Ha, great thread idea and I love your clever movie reference in the title. Your #s 6 and 7 are out of this world. Six looks like a porcelain doll and Seven has the expression of an actual child being told to pose for a picture. I have a bunch of fake people, although some may have already been posted. Here are my first two offerings ~

Good idea for a thread, albeit I first thought that Kerouac was seeing through people posting on forums that they are fake...

Looks like I'm set for surgery and chemo and a wig without needing to even put on my coat.

I'm wondering if you'd like to set more parameters, Kerouac. For instance, the next three photos were taken in "museums." Are they acceptable? Are complete bodies necessary? Faces? Should they represent clothing or other items that are for sale?

Personally, I have no intention of photographing headless mannequins. The head is the most important part. However, I am not setting any rules, so anything goes.

Bixa, what is that thing in post #8? It looks like the mannequin is hooked up to a gas stove top.

"I went to the State Fair expecting a blue ribbon and all I got was this lousy T-shirt."
Last night I went to bed laughing at your sari comment, bixa. It still gives me a chuckle this morning.

Super pics of the headdressed ladies from Pierrefonds, Htmb. Bjd, I love that photo of the cut-outs on the balcony. Bixa, what is that thing in post #8? It looks like the mannequin is hooked up to a gas stove top. Hee hee ~ that was taken in Istanbul, as I was on my way from one cultural site to another and came across that Dada vision. It's just two pieces of unrelated junk on the cart, but the cart owner was tickled that I was taking the picture & helpfully turned the lady so I could get a full-face shot. I think of them as the magician and his assistant. And your t-shirt comment gave me a good laugh too, Breeze -- I hadn't thought of that. Thank you!

Ha ha, Lugg and Kerouac -- your sets taken together look like a comment on stereotypes of the French and British character. Great photos. I think I have crushes on Kerouac's first guy in #23 and on Woody.

Interesting they were placed on the sidewalk like that. Working on their tan?
