Thank you Questa! I frequently misunderstand posts. I am happy when members let me know. Bixa (and many others!) understand why and have been immensely supportive since I joined Any Port in a Storm. I feel comfortable here.

I am sorry to have been the guilty party.
It just ssemed normal to me to mention Halloween when Brexit was extended once again to 31 October. I was being flippant.

No guilt! no apologies necessary! Continue on being flippant, everyone enjoys it! I believe it is what is unique between you all.
The thread needs spirited conversation as it is a serious situation.

The thread needs spirited conversation as it is a serious situation. I think that everyone has "Brexit-fatigue". The politicians have run out of ideas, the journalists have run out of words and the people have run out of patience. Until there are serious developments ...I, for one, have run out of interest.

I am still following the whole debacle closely, waiting to see how it plays out. It is going to be an economic disaster for the UK and really, they are pulling the rug out from under an organization which counted it as a strong partner.
The politicians have zero ideas. This is just a giant party struggle at this point, with those at top not seeming to care at all for the people they're supposed to serve.
Even though I'm a citizen of a different country, I identify a great deal with that aspect of it.

I have noticed that ever since Brexit was delayed again, there is absolutely nothing about it in the news. Does this mean that everybody is going to forget about until about October 20th?

I have noticed that ever since Brexit was delayed again, there is absolutely nothing about it in the news. Does this mean that everybody is going to forget about until about October 20th? No, just for the Easter break. Once everyone's back at Westminster, the manoeuvrings recommence. How long will she be able to hang on to try to find some way out of the deadlock, before or after May 22nd? Will there be some sort of deal with Labour to get something through and will that involve a second referendum? Which party's going to split the most the fastest? Will we be going ahead with European Parliament elections? What, if anything, will the local government elections on May 2 indicate?

One problem with Brexit that we didnt consider...we had quite a lot of difficulty booking our holiday. We usually stay in the UK, hiring a cottage or similar in Cornwall, Devon, Wales or Scotland. It's generally quite easy to book but not this year, everything is booked up. We managed to get a nice little cottage in Pembrokeshire in early September after trawling the web for days.
According to the news big travel companies like Thomas Cook are losing millions. So maybe the streets of Majorca won't be full of drunken English idiots this summer.

Cheery, several years ago when there started being problems in Tunisia and other countries that were popular holiday spots I noticed more and more Europeans that would have gone there are now staying in Europe, especially Spain. If that's true or not I don't know, it just seemed an impression because usually during the summer when we are there we like to have a few weekends away. We did notice it became more and more difficult to book anywhere in the high season. This year we've totally given up trying to find a hotel on the coast and I needed a hotel near Malaga airport for one night before a flight, but have failed to find somewhere at a decent price or location. Maybe the British are having one last fling before leaving.

Tourists are a fickle bunch in most of our countries these days, and they often catch the travel agents off guard -- not the fact that all of a sudden they will cancel all reservations in any country that had a terrorist incident, but the sudden lunge in a new direction. Obviously, though, when in doubt, European prefer to stay in Europe. I imagine that Brexit has convinced a lot of people to stay in the UK this summer, or possibly up until the end of the year. (Or longer?) I would probably do the same if I had any reason to fear that just before my holiday began (or maybe in the middle of it), the value of my currency might drop 15 or 20%.

There was a client at our door today. U.K. Plate. So I went to help as he is not supposed to be fully informed of our (crazy) schedules and whilst waiting for his contact to appear I did some small talk. The guy was forced by his biggest client to live to Belgium since the client relocated expecting trouble due to Brexit. I was really surprised. Then an inner voice told me ' well done take that Brexiters ' just fleetingly of course.

She has been seriously let down by the Westminster Wankers, she had made an honest effort to get Brexit past them. I am afraid the concessions she made were too great anyway and the whole affair could get ugly, the euro elections may tell a story and then the brown stuff will hit the whirly thing.

It's like a bitter divorce with UK politicians demanding that we get to keep all the family silver even tho we only bought a candlestick and a spoon into the marriage.
I don't know the details of the deal she struck. Perhaps it was a good deal. It would have been good if we'd been allowed to see it all not just the inflammatory bits leaked by politicians putting their own spin on everything.

Isn't there a General Election due soon? As her last act, could she not call it on early and give the people the chance to elect a fresh Parliament...preferably with more Independents standing, and govern as a Coalition Govt until Brexit is settled. Maybe another poll on Brexit could be incorporated into the voting papers. At least it would give voters and administrators awareness of the difficulties of actually making the whole thing work. Tell Boris he is no longer needed, thank you but go home now.

We tried a coalition (conservative/liberal democrats)...they can't do it because they don't play nicely. If we had a general election it would just be worse...keep waiting for the cream to float to the top. It seems that 'other things' float.
It just feels as if none of them are taking things seriously..they think that they're tv celebrities and have forgotten that they have responsibilities. They can't show any loyalty towards each other never mind the people. It's probably always been this way really it's just that there were enough decent folk in there to at least instill some sense of comfort in the population. Not atm tho...the only ones that I agree with have no power whatsoever. ..and little chance of getting only especially with our shit voting system.

You've summed it up tragically but perfectly, Cheery.
As an outsider, I stupidly thought that Corbyn would manage to corral his party into some kind of plan that would snatch the UK back from the idiocy of Brexit. But all he has done is to prove that first and foremost he is a politician.
As far as sense of comfort in the population, that is what is wrong with the world. The population needs to be alert and wary at all times, not just complacently allowing their "betters" to decide what is best. The meek shall indeed inherit the earth. I hope they'll be happy with whatever shit they wind up with.
