So before I move to the final section of this up-date I thought I would show a little of what we saw in Narbonne itself.
In the centre of the main square there is a small section of an old roman road which has been exposed ; the Via Domitia, the first Roman road to have been built in Gaul. In 118 BC this was the town known as Narbo Martius

Bordering the square is the Archbishops’ Palace which houses some museums as well as the Town Hall. It actually consists of two buildings – the old ( 9-13th century) and the new ( 14th to 18th)

We did go in but Htmb and Bixa covered it in detail so I am not going to cover it again. Their photos are much better than mine.
The Chien Chic sign caught my eye; for the pooch that has to have to its best at all times

As we are on the subject of dogs this looked like an almost friendly gargoyle,

Anyway I really liked Narbonne and we were glad we visited and used it as a base.
After that we went to stay in St Laurent to spend a night with our god mother and had a lovely catch up.
Next day we had a couple of hours to kill before we caught the plane home and we decided to revisit Lagrasse. This was October 13th,
Just a day or so before the dreadful storms and floods that hit this region killing a number of people.
I cannot find a video now in English but the second part of this report shows the houses in the first few photos below
The calm before the storm. Looking back at the photos now I realise how ominous some of the clouds were.

There was an area that had some modern art work, but it was very much in keeping with the building I thought,

One last look back and a couple of pics before we headed to the airport

Well that’s it except to say that the plane journey home was something I will never forget. Flying into the storm in the UK our plane made 3 attempts to land each time nearly touching down and then getting side swiped by cross winds in the most terrible storm and then having to go back up at angles I don’t even want to remember . On our 4th attempt the pilot said it would be the last… after that we would have to try our luck elsewhere – anyway he made it.
