Early indications are the Trumpathon’s ratings (TV viewer numbers) are lower than the DNC last week. www.tvguide.com/news/dnc-rnc-tv-ratings-night-one/That’s gotta grind the orange ape’s guts! My theory is that people know what they’re getting with Trump, and are curious about the other guy, who seems like a decent human being.

What a disgusting thing he is. If antiwar campaigners were to voice such contemptuous comments, our physical and virtual postboxes would be filled with death threats. I don't even like the photo of him barrelling through that graveyard. I was at the war graves at Dieppe and Commonwealth War Graves in the Netherlands and couldn't imagine behaving like that, and I'm far from gung-ho on any kind of patriotism.
He simply doesn't know how to behave like a decent human being, or even pretend to.

I sent that article to my Trump-supporting friend who is a Vietnam vet (noncombat).
I’ll let you know if we are still friends after this...

What's the betting he is a coward, put him among the muck and bullets and his trousers would be brown on no time.

That’s a given, Mossie. He’s a coward and a bully. Also a revolting individual who damages everything in his path.

One thing that I found pertinent in the article was the fact that he has no interest in anything unless there is money to be made.

That sticks out a mile, and he doesn't mind how he makes it, bullying lying or cheating. Lovely bloke.

Indeed. How he treated John McCain was beyond vile. And that was just one in a series.
Trump does have an equally vile twin in Brazil, though. They had a notorious meet-up in Mar al Lago, at the onset of the pandemic. A bit less surprising given the long history of outright dictatorships in that other large American country.
Edited to add: the US military officer cited off the record had pretty much the same comment as Mossie, in more diplomatic terms...

It’s time for those quoted anonymously in the Atlantic article to step forward and confirm the report. People like John Kelly.

I don't disagree, Htmb, but Trump was such a vocal ass about John McCain that I think people will take the article at face value.

You’d think, Bixa, but this is the call I’m hearing from various news analysts. It’s going to take much more than hearing what he said about John McCain to get the attention of many military vets and families. You could write that particular incident off as jealousy for the specific person, but when someone is talking about an attitude towards the military as a whole - countless generations of people who have sacrificed themselves for their country - it’s going to take more information to make a legitimate impact. I would love to see members of the military see him for what he is. A user and a coward. Someone who has no respect for others and who only thinks of his own self-glorification.

BTW, my Trump-supporting friend sent a terse email asking me not to send him “political shit”. I replied with an apology and said that it was all over the morning news and I thought he’d want to see the source article.
He replied No Worries.
Guess we’re still friends.

Other news outlets have independently confirmed the Atlantic article. Even Fox News... Good to know! re: still friends ~ lucky you. Have you all seen the story about the Trump ad with the doctored footage & the fact that France24 might be suing over it? The only piece I can find on it at this moment is an opinion article in the Washington Post. (although in googling, I sure found lots of instances of the Trump campaign using intellectual property without permission) “France 24 was deeply disturbed when it discovered the unauthorized use in a campaign clip of video images taken from a France 24 report shot during recent protests in Minneapolis,” Marie-Christine Saragosse, the CEO of France Médias Monde, the parent company of France 24, said in a statement sent to me.
“France 24 strongly objects to the unauthorized use of its video images for partisan purposes,” Saragosse continued. “France 24 requests that this footage be immediately removed from the campaign clip and is considering legal action should this request not be promptly met.”
The France 24 segment also shows those people in a somewhat different light than their depiction in Trump’s ad, which simplistically portrays them as belonging to the bright, pro-Trump portion, in contrast to the dark, violent ... Biden half.
The news segment depicts the complexities of the situation: It features supporters of the protesters lamenting the violence and devastation in Minneapolis, including one woman wearing a mask featuring the “I can’t breathe” logo ...source: www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/09/04/new-trump-ad-features-some-oddly-placed-footage-now-its-owner-may-sue/

Even with none of those present hearing Trump insult the military admitting it formally, it's so believable simply because Trump is such a wholesale shit and it's a typical attitude for him to have. Remember when he wouldn't go to the ceremony at the military cemetery in France because it was raining?

I wonder if the POTUS will try to replace Ruth Bader Ginsburg before the election. If he is really as confident of reelection as he says he is, there should be no pressure to hurry up, right?

It has been power-hungry MM’s longtime goal to stack the Supreme Court and overturn Roe v Wade. This all ties in with why over-zealous conservatives support T, while overlooking his complete failure as a leader, and why the VP continuously offers the phrase "stay the course" to perplexed friends and colleagues who don’t understand how people like him can live with themselves. It’s all about the courts and the enforcement of conservative values. Some of these people see T as the "savior" who has come to set the nation back on the "right path of good, honest puritanical living."

Here’s an example of what is circulating on social media:
To all those who say..."I'd vote for anyone but TRUMP... I can't stand him!!" or "I can't believe you're voting for Trump!" Well folks listen up! This is not a jr. high or high school popularity/personality election!! I'm not just voting for the person, I'm voting for the platform! I'm voting for the second Amendment. I'm voting for the next supreme court justice. I'm voting for the electoral college, and the Republic we live in. I'm voting for the Police, and law and order. I'm voting for the military, and the veterans who fought for and died for this Country. I'm voting for the Flag that is always missing from the Democratic background. I'm voting for the right to speak my opinion and not be censored. I’m voting for secure borders. I’m voting for the right to praise my God without fear. I’m voting for every unborn soul the Democrats want to murder. I’m voting for freedom and the American Dream. I’m voting for good and against evil. I'm not just voting for one person, I'm voting for the future of my Country! What are you voting for? God Bless America Copy and paste, I did!!!
This is how they justify voting for a dangerous despot.

Well sure -- Trump and his family and hangers-on are all perfect examples of "honest puritanical living". The real problem with these evangelicals, bible-thumpers and others who think they are defending the flag (only when it's Republican or Confederate) is that they want to impose their ideas on the rest of the country, whether the others want it or not. Rather like the Taliban.
