I would hope to be seen as aggressive rather than passive. The predicament of the Americans is the same as in all of our capitalist countries. The countries are controlled totally by big industry, the multinationals, the banks, the insurance companies, the pharmaceutical companies, etc. They tell the government what to do no matter who is elected. The little details of life like health care, freedom of the press, education, abortion rights, race relations, etc. are just window dressing to keep the lower classes divided and impotent while they fill their pockets.

WOW! I am just now reading today's NOLA daily newspaper and see that Trump is choosing a NOLA native to fill SCOTUS! Amy Coney Barrett is from Old Metairie, an old section of NOLA that is still in Orleans Parish. I don't know much of her career here locally but, am acutely aware as the story indicates that she is of no surprise ultra Cuntservative and irksomely perky.

Will she even have time to be on the Supreme Court with those seven children? (I am assuming that her family is traditional so the children are her problem, not her husband's.)

She's a good Catlickholic girl. Attended St. Mary's Dominican High School right here in Carrollton, a stone's throw from my husband's childhood home.

It's a cult. I never read the Handmaid's Tale (I'm sick of dystopian novels) but she is the embodiment of their female patriarchal enforcers.
I don't disagree with K2, but things like healthcare and abortion rights could be life or death issues for many people. I'd certainly kill myself before giving birth against my will, and no healthcare can be a life and death issue for all.
Fuck that patriarchal whore.

Almost all of the major religions promote communist ideals. It just proves what hypocrites they are.

So she belongs to an organisation that encourages communism...... That is interesting on so many levels. As you know, very early Christianity was strong on communal living and sharing. More importantly, early pure Christianity regarded men and women as completely equal. It is intriguing that Barrett adheres to a group espousing community sharing of resources, surely the very ideal espoused by progressives that is so despised by conservatives. But then she is willing to accept all the women-subject-to-male-rule crap as (supposedly) espoused by Paul. (more here if you enjoy reading such things)In fairness, it is not a given that any official pledged to uphold the constitution would allow her/himself to be swayed by personal religious beliefs, but it's hard not to assume that it might have a bearing. What I am wondering, in light of the fact that Trump could have garnered votes both from Hispanics and from on-the-fence voters by nominating Barbara Lagoa instead of Barrett, is if there isn't a craftily nefarious sub-agenda at work. Figure it: Surely Biden's Catholicism is bound to come into play as a possible negative factor in this election. But Trump cannot risk attacking him on that directly, as he could well lose the many conservative Catholics presently poised to give Trump their votes. But Barrett's Senate hearing will surely have the issue of her personal beliefs aired. Anti-Catholicism is widespread in the US, and having the threat of a Catholic president raised (albeit obliquely) as it was during JFK's run, could be a clever move on the part of the Trump campaign organization.

"Knowing" Trump -- he is probably proud of evading taxes for so many years. What might annoy him though is being exposed as someone who has lost so much money over the years -- even running casinos and golf courses.

Using fiscal engineering is smart. Making money, esp in the US, is also smart. Using huge losses to avoid paying tax, for me only proved you are not smart enough to make real money.

From Heather Cox Richardson: “The first presidential debate of 2020 was unlike anything we have seen before. CNN’s Jake Tapper said: "That was a hot mess, inside a dumpster fire, inside a train wreck." "He was his own tweets come to life." “We’ll talk about who won the debate, who lost the debate ... One thing for sure, the American people lost.” Conservative pundit William Kristol called it “a spectacle… an embarrassment… a disgrace… because of the behavior of one man, Donald Trump.”

What i read and heard is that Biden was not great. He should have kept his distances and stay out of the brawl. CNN posted that he forgot the saying that - don't fight with pigs, you will get mud and get dirty and the pig loves it.

I don’t usually have access to cable news channels, but I do this week. Fascinating to flip between MSNBC/CNN and FOX, to see how very differently they are spinning the debate last night.
FOX: it was a forceful performance. CNN: it was an embarrassment, and Joe Biden held up better than expected in the face of such a bullying attack.
God help us. And I’m not a believer. But maybe this will wake up god’s supporters to stop supporting a lying bloviating self-serving abusive narcissist.

Can't help thinking that if there was a younger candidate than Biden that he would win it by a country mile.

I don't believe in a maximum age for candidates, but the spectacle was a bit Sad Granpas...
It's none of my business (except for the harm Trump can do to his neighbours south and north) and Americans won't win healthcare under Biden anyway. The only thing I really like about Biden is his fondness for rail.

Biden looked older than usual (paler too in comparison to the orange ape), and on occasion like a deer in the headlights. But he had his moments and he spoke directly to the American people while Trump flung turds his way.
The moderator, Chris Wallace, who was so highly touted ahead of the debate, was almost useless. Guess he’d prepared for a presidential debate, not a circus.
IF there’s another debate: there should be a time delay to allow for fact checking, and the moderator must have a kill switch for each man’s mic.
IMO. It may not be possible to change the rules at this stage. Even when Trump acted like there WERE no rules, though he'd agreed to them ahead of time.

Can't help thinking that if there was a younger candidate than Biden that he would win it by a country mile. And I can't help thinking that any candidate with passion and a firm, well-crafted platform would have shone -- Bernie Sanders, for instance, who is older than both the candidates, but very much alive and with something real to say. Biden looked older than usual (paler too in comparison to the orange ape), and on occasion like a deer in the headlights. I swear he's "had work done" and it looks kind of creepy. There is that complete lack of wrinkles on his upper lip and something squinched about his eyes. That, combined with his mega-wattage white teeth give more of a waxworks figure impression than of warm, engaged candidate. re: deer in headlights: He reminded me so much of Tommy Smothers! I read (on FB, so take that for what it's worth) that Wallace was not allowed to cut off the mike.

I've only caught snippets on the news and I can't say that I'm sorry that I missed the entire thing. Trump has no manners at all. Our lot are pretty awful but Trump knocks them into a cocked hat.
I hope Biden wins the election. It will help rebalance the world imo. I agree with Bixa that Bernie Sanders would have made an excellent candidate and would have given Trump short shift in the debates...but what do I know.
