Whew! that was enlightening Mark! I am definitely a Sri Lankan type tourist rather than an India one I must do a little research on the Mahogany tree as my neighbor has an enormous one in her yard. Don't think it's the same kind tho. Bark looks does similar. You have given us a very handy hotel list which of course gives us the towns you visited so is a nice little guide in itself. The Tuk-Tuk did darn well not to conk in at any time. Did the jarring not put you off ever thinking of doing a trip with one in the future? Your kidneys must have got a good bouncing around at times when the road was really rough Thanks again for a very enjoyable report and stunning photos !

Thanks Tod. Yes, though, I would do it again in a tuktuk. I'm a glutton for punishment.

Just read an article saying that Sri Lanka is the best kept secret in Asia: as mysterious as India, the bounty beaches of Indonesia and the radiant smile of the Thai, but then without the hordes of German tourists.

I would sort of agree. It certainly has all those things but a little watered down, if you see what I mean. It should really be on a to do list for many though.
