At least 2 dead, a dozen or so injured in a shooting that took place last evening on Danforth Avenue,7/22.
To my knowledge it was a lone gunman and I am not up to date on all the details thus far.
Perhaps some of our Canadian friends on here could elaborate some more on the details.
I just thought it so very unusual that such an occurrence take place in Canada versus the US.

It is, but it is the second "mass" attack in Toronto in a few months. The other one used a cube van, and the perp was a so-called "incel" who targeted women.
These crimes are much rarer in Canada than the US, But there have been several over the years.
I've been worried about it because a friend, a journalist of Greek descent, lives in that neighbourhood. I e-mailed her at about 5 a.m. after reading about it (I was utterly insomniac, but because of the extreme heat (by our standards) here). She hasn't written back but she might be on holiday somewhere, or simply sick of all the worried friends, relatives and colleagues.
You could look at the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail, or the Toronto edition of the CBC news site.
The NYT has also had excellent Canadian coverage of late, including Dan Bilefsky (a native, at-least-bilingual Montréalais) from here and others in Toronto, Ottawa and probably Vancouver.
We don't know the perp's "motivation" yet, as he either killed himself or was killed in the armed confrontation with the police.
The only Torontonian here I remember is Jazz, who hasn't posted in quite a while.

My godson has échange family in Toronto. Good people. Always leaves me sad to read such news.

The only thing I have seen on the CBC website is reporting about people being hysterical and running away. Not much information available yet about the gunman.

My friend answered me. She is fine - I thought she was, because media talks about itself, but still I was worried:
Thanks. Unimaginable. The most family-friendly, patio-lined, bustling, lively street in Toronto
