My BiL (84) had his second AZ jab yesterday. My DiL has had her first one and felt a bit rough for a few hours the next day...but she's fine now.
My bother had the pfizer vaccine and has just received his appointment for the second one...when he will be in Scotland on a walking holiday! He tried to change his appointment but in Leicester we are only getting pfizer on certain days and don't have a lot of that particular vaccine..he will have to try to get an appointment somewhere else..good luck with that. To be honest I'd rather he delayed travelling (it's only one day) to get the vaccine...one day off a holiday is worth trading for covid protection imo.
Don't think my little family unit will be doing anything much this year.

Perhaps COVID is the re-set event for India’s exploding population. Will China have one, too?

China's population is projected to fall because of the one-child policy for many years and a general aging of the population. The increase every year has been smaller and smaller for a few years already. This is the first thing that came up when I googled: www.macrotrends.net/countries/CHN/china/population

NYT reporting that the EU will open travel to vaccinated Americans sometime this summer.
This is obviously good news for a lot of people like me who want or need to travel there. When? To be determined. How to determine vaccination status? Also, to be determined.
All this said, I'm probably not going, even if I can, until the Covid situation is brought under a significant degree of control in Italy at least. I'm not really interested in trying to be a tourist in places still under lockdown or restrictions. I don't really see the point. I just hope the EU gets its house in order not too long after the US has its own.

I got my first shot (Pfizer) this morning -- no sore arm, no after-effects. Next shot in early June.
How to determine vaccination status? Some sort of un-forgeable card or certificate, I guess.

Our medical Aid Society has messaged us to please register with them for a vaccine shot. The government is dragging their heels so much that the Medical Aid companies are importing their own vaccine. Either way I can't wait to get this over and done with. Those scenes on YouTube of the chaos in India reminds me it could so easily happen here.

The news out of India is truly horrific. It is truly terrible - but wonder if this is a pattern for other countries who do not yet have adequate vaccines for their populations , in particular where little measures are put in place to reduce spread. Those of us who do really need to start to stand up and help others. Apologies I have not read back the many pages since I was last here , but great news Bjd (and any others who have been vaccinated.) All this said, I'm probably not going, even if I can, until the Covid situation is brought under a significant degree of control in Italy at least. I'm not really interested in trying to be a tourist in places still under lockdown or restrictions. I don't really see the point. I just hope the EU gets its house in order not too long after the US has its own. I have no intention to travel anywhere outside England and Wales until 22 at the least. I am fully vaccinated but I still don't know how much I could transmit to others . That is my main concern. p-articularly in relation to countries where the vaccination rates are lower .

According to CNN 29% of Republicans won’t get vaccinated. Have they no brain? Can’t they see the situation in India?
What is their reasoning?

“it’s not that big of a deal.” “It’s all a hoax.” “It’s no worse than getting the flu.” “It’s just being over exaggerated by the crazy libtards.” “The dems are trying to take away our freedoms.” “Better to get Covid than to get the vaccine.” “India? Never heard of it.”

Give all the people saying that crap a one-way ticket to India and revoke their passports. See if their tune changes then.

Htmb, you can add to that list above a reason told to me by a deeply conservative acquaintance about why he's not getting vaccinated: "I'm tired of them telling me what to do." Who is this "them"? Referring to Europe opening travel to vaccinated Americans this summer, Fumobici said: This is obviously good news for a lot of people like me who want or need to travel there. Fumobici, I agree about not wanting to visit places in lockdown or with strict anti-covid restrictions. But adding to that reluctance is what I've been reading on social media travel sites. As far as I can tell, there will be a veritable stampede to Europe in September and October. Tourist glut-wise, it sounds like Florence in May on steroids. As far as proving vaccination, I am a "vaccinated American", but suspect Europe might only mean US citizens flying from the US. And my proof of vaccination is a ratty filled-out-by-hand piece of paper. According to CNN 29% of Republicans won’t get vaccinated. Have they no brain? Mick, they're Republicans. Can’t they see the situation in India? What is their reasoning? Mick, they're Republicans. To paraphrase the old saying about art appreciation, their stance is, "I don't really know the facts about anything, but whatever it is, it might threaten my world view and complacency, so I'm automatically against it.Congratulations to Cheery's family members, to Bjd, to Tod, and to all who are finally getting the shot or at least are signed up and on track to get it.

Fumobici, I’d be up for that, except I’m guessing the majority of the people I’ve quoted (paraphrased from comments made on my local television’s Facebook page) don’t have passports. Many are probably not registered to vote, and their level of education is extremely low. They are part of the “sheep,” crowd, following asshole trumpian leaders who could care less about their welfare. Often they’re in dead-end, low-wage jobs and they live paycheck to paycheck. They claim to be Republicans when asked, but I’ll bet many who are registered actually never vote. They’re afraid the government is going to take away their guns and their rights, and the vaccine will poison them and make them sterile. They also think Biden is the worse president ever.
Of course, these aren’t the more educated Republicans who are quietly getting vaccinated and not telling anyone, just like Donald and Melania. Those people typically don’t respond to polls.

This is a very nasty virus and capable of springing a surprise. Luckily this country seems to have done the right thing, if sometimes s bit slow off the mark. I'm just afraid the guard will drop and we will get another wave, people have been restricted for so long it is beginning to get a nuisance and resolution will waver. Keep fingers crossed. This morning's news says that another variant has shown up in the Indian disaster...faster, more lethal and no vaccines for it. There is your surprise, Mossie.

Good information! I put my card into my passport holder as soon as I got it. The size the man in that picture is holding is what I envision when I think "card". This is the tablecloth sized edition I got. Eyeglasses are for scale. After I took this picture to show here, it occurred to me that it was a good idea to have a picture of ones vaccine documentation.

I don't know whether I'll get any proof of vaccination once the second shot has been done. For now I just have yesterday's paper that I have to bring next time. I do have a yellow vaccination booklet somewhere but I haven't been able to find it. In any case, for now it isn't known whether or not we will need annual boosters or not, so a permanent card is probably anticipating things.
The situation in India does appear to be terrible, especially since the numbers we see and hear on the news are probably completely understated and undercounted. However, as other countries are asked to help, I do wish we were not getting articles about oxygen and vaccines sold on the black market for prices on the very wealthy can afford.

Altho I wear home made mask a lot of the time, I also keep a box of disposables for us to use...I've been disappointed with the ones I've bought online..so I'm hoping to pick some up today in town from a pharmacy.
India has a large pharmaceutical industry and produce the AZ vaccine, the UK should stop importing vaccines from India until they've managed to vaccinate their vulnerable population.

I don't understand why the USA is sitting on 60 million doses of AZ vaccine if it hasn't even been authorized there.

Tonight I seen a photograph posted on Twitter that showed I believe the owners of this private school with the Florida Governor. Also noting that last month they donated $30,000 to his campaign. That is not surprising if it is accurate.
And some news, tonight I got an appointment for my first Moderna shot for tomorrow morning. I am so relieved and happy.
