... careless behaviour indeed. I will never understand how my niece and nephews did not think of their mother instantly when vaccines became available to them. The disconnect between lack of action regarding the vaccine & how it might affect others is mind-boggling. When I was visiting family earlier this month I was appalled to find that one niece, a medical professional who works with the elderly and who visits my mother often, hadn't "gotten around to it". It turned out that now she'd lose her job if she didn't get inoculated -- which begs the question of why it took so long for the employer to demand that employees be vaccinated. I expressed my shock at her lack of action & she had no real answer, since she isn't anti-vax. Extremely disappointing. It seems that if the world could have followed Catherine the Great's lead and made getting vaccinated fashionable, we might be much further along in having a protected population ~ Catherine the Great Letter Up for Auction Shows Her Support for Inoculations

I started getting a flu shot years ago, all NHS staff are offered a flu vaccine every autumn but I didn't bother until H1N1 hit when I was in my 50s. My Doctor arranges the annual flu vaccine now that I'm retired.
I still have a slight swelling and redness where I had my pfizer vaccine, and I'm still not feeling 100%..maybe that's more to do with the fact that I had 2 vaccines at the same time rather than a pfizer problem.

I snagged a booster reservation today at the University of Saint Denis for the appropriate date (5 months after second shot). It appealed to me because the metro goes there and it is unknown territory for me. I'll take my camera.

Good for you!
Here in the US, the medical community is still requiring us to wait six months for a booster except for those who had the J&J immunization. I wish they’d reduce the wait time to five months.

Flew to Spain today via Germany. Lots of checks on vaccinations or tests or recovery certificates at every step. One thing though was Lufthansa specified for a long time only FFP2 masks could be worn on the plane. Now they are happy enough with the normal blue shade of surgical masks.

I do not contest the FFP2 mask requirement but it did seem rather extreme to me since masks of any type are not a magic wand.

www.cbc.ca/news/canada/sudbury/north-bay-childrens-vaccine-clinic-harassment-1.6266942Harassment and intimidation of families attending a vaccine clinic in my home city this past weekend is making national news. It is terrible that these "adults" are frightening the children. I read so many of the comments and there was a mom who suggested to parents that to all families that have ear buds to put them in, turn up the music and dance on by.

Awful, Mich, though that’s something I’d expect to see down here, rather than in Canada. I am so sick of people behaving horribly. Sometimes it feels like half the people in the world have gone crazy.

Horrible. Live and let live, is it so hard for some ?
Meanwhile we are forced to homework.
I am allowed only one day a week at the office and we mustn't be more than 4 people at any time. Out of about 20, so indeed 20pc...
My wife gets her shot on Friday. I will sleep better. I got used to her 😏

Germany has now closed down just about everythihg to the unvaccinated except for food stores and pharmacies. It should be interesting to see how this plays out.

I fully support the countries of southern Africa for protesting the travel bans that have been placed on them. Half of them have not even reported the presence of an omicron variant, but it is so easy for the rich countries to find a scapegoat. If they had provided all of the vaccines they promised, maybe this would not have happened. In the meantime, nobody has even proved that the omicron variant originated in South Africa. The country has just been punished for having an excellent reporting system when they could have kept their mouths shut.

About 2 weeks ago 100 belgian doctors of the same promotions celebrated some of them retiring.. All of them double vaccinated and saying so. Appatently one was not because 20 of them got infected. It is expected that no vaccinated Covid infected could spread so well the disease. My wife's friend, celebrating his retirement, spent 3 days un ER. It will be freezing in hell before i attend such events in closed rooms.

vaccine hesitancy slows an inoculation campaign. Kind of like the United States and the UK then?

Only hours ago we were discussing the fact that some of our a large quantity vaccines has reached its expiry date - only because for no good reason thousands decided not to be vaccinated. Vaccination stations were begging people to come in and get jabbed. Even going to the lengths of having placards and balloons at the entrance with people chanting and encouraging passers by. I don't know if the third booster jab is the same as a regular vaccine jab, but if it is they have woken up too late to offer it to people like me who are on tenterhooks just waiting for them to say "Come And Get It!

I was appalled to find that one niece, a medical professional who works with the elderly and who visits my mother often, hadn't "gotten around to it". I realized this morning that when I wrote the preceding, I had forgotten that my niece had in fact contracted covid well before a vaccine was available. I really don't know what the correct vaccine procedure is for people who've already had covid. Because of Tod, I probably follow news from South Africa more closely than I would have in the past. NYTimes had an article with a judgmental headline, although the article itself is fairly broad & balanced: linkAnother article on the same topic: time.com/6124974/omicron-africa-vaccines/And one more, which is much shorter, but from 12 days ago: www.reuters.com/world/africa/exclusive-south-africa-delays-covid-vaccine-deliveries-inoculations-slow-2021-11-24/

Since 40% of the population of sub Saharan Africa doesn't even have access to clean water, I am surprised that these articles don't also insinuate that the people are resistant to clean water. Perhaps a lot of them just have other priorities on their mind. If I were living in a hut made of buffalo dung with a grass roof, my booster shot would probably not be at the top of my list.

Kind of like the United States and the UK then? Is there a reason you selectively picked those two? No mention of, say, Germany and countless others? Don't follow your point. If there actually was one.

Took all day to travel from Madrid to Sarajevo, first a two hour car drive, then a flight from Madrid to Frankfurt, then to Vienna and finally Bosnia. Austrian airlines and Austrian airports are the only ones that demand an FFP2 mask and no other. When you book with Austrian they blare out their restriction but still it seems half the plane load don't have one and have to scramble around to get one, otherwise they are denied boarding. Land at Sarajevo, nobody wearing a mask at all. Immigration, Customs nor taxi drivers.

Is there a reason you selectively picked those two? Absolutely. They are the two countries that bragged the most about their vaccines. You may have been taking a nap.

Edited to say I wrote more but realised it wasn't concise enough. Better to say that as the UK has vaccinated over 90% of its population, the third highest in the European area, giving it as an example of vaccine hesitation is unrealistic and smacks of having an agenda.

It all depends where you get your figures from.
On CNN health they have a table of all the countries in the world by doses administered per 100 people with Gibraltar top at 298, Cuba second at 253. UK seem to be the best European country at 173 with Denmark at 171, Ireland 167, Spain 165, Italy 164, France 158, Germany 152 and so on.
USA 142.

Gibraltar administered 298 doses per 100 people? So there are no small children, nobody who cannot be vaccinated? They must have counted the baboons. Actually, I saw different numbers on the BBC. www.bbc.com/news/health-55274833

Actually, I saw different numbers on the BBC. The BBC article doesn't show any European countries as per what Mick has stated so can't be different. It does say the UK is 170 as opposed to 173 and Cuba 251 as opposed to 253 but close enough. They are the only two in common.

If we take another look at the death statistics of the principal countries, one would tend to wonder if the right people were vaccinated at the right time.
