Regarding anti-vax protesters heckling people attending a vaccination centre...the 'My body-My choice' argument appears to only be valid if one doesn't want the vaccine? Anybody willingly taking advantage of vaccination must be either brainwashed or an idiot? It makes me so cross that the anti-everything morons are given so much attention in the press.

I just had my third shot. My arm is a bit tender, which it wasn't the two previous times. It probably depends more on the doctor who does the injection than on the patient.

I'll let you know what will have happened to me tomorrow. (I just tried to imagine trying to teach that conjugation as an English teacher.)

So, I got the booster today and am probably one of the rare people who had 1) AstraZeneca, 2) Moderna and 3) Pfizer in my series. Frankly, I would have preferred Moderna again since it is apparently the best one for the current variants.

I've only had two different sorts but not many can claim to have had three shots in three different countries.

Wonderful Kerouac. I think you have a cocktail of note! I don;t think any Covid varient would dare to attack you.
My good news is that we are able to get our third shot in January, I didn't think so soon but after the government revealed the huge waste in vaccines, I think they have finally realised that those that dragged their heels in getting the jab are not going to delay the vaccination process any longer. I hate those bastards. It was like blocking an exit.....even a toilet.

I am able to book my booster shot on Monday when our provincial portal opens for 50+. My husband is booked for December 20th already due to being a first responder. With some Omicron being identified in areas surrounding us, I am eager for our boosters. Hoping everyone else is keeping safe and will be boostered soon.

It's great to know that so many anyporters are either already boostered or on the way to getting it soon.
I read that Pfizer claims that its booster is effective against omicron. I also read that getting a mix of the shots is better protection. I choose to believe both of those things -- we need positive news! For the record, all three of my shots were Pfizer.

Pfizer was the only thing being offered here so that's what I had for all 3 shots.

The provincial portal for boosters for those 50+ opened this morning. It went down quite a few times but we finally got through and I have my booster appointment booked for December 22nd.

My sister who lives in Ontario (like Mich) told me she had an appointment for her booster shot yesterday but that the vaccination clinic had huge lines of "older seniors" who arrived with no appointments and waited for ages.

Shouldn’t they already have had theirs? Do you mean the boosters? They aren't obligatory in Canada, nor in France. Here too over-65s can go in without an appointment for the booster, or any other covid shot. Just today I heard on the radio how many over-65s would have their health passes deactivated because they haven't had the booster within 7 months of their second dose:5% or 400,000 people.

Just taking the bus yesterday, I saw that pharmacies and medical centres in Paris were suddenly mobbed. I'm glad that I'm done with it because even when one doesn't need an appointment anymore, it means hours of waiting. The other day I had an appointment for 8:50. I arrived at 8:40 and everything was finished by 8:58 and I had my new health pass.

Got Moderna #3 today. Walked into a nearby pharmacy without an appointment, waited 15 minutes filling out forms and looking at the latest dental health products, got my jab, noodled on my phone for almost the requisite 15 minutes after the jab, and done.

Excellent news, fumo. My second shot was Moderna, which is supposed to be the best right now. But in France, they can't convince the public of this and have far too much Moderna stock on hand because everybody is demanding Pfizer. they haven't had the booster within 7 months of their second dose:5% or 400,000 people Luckily, just about all of these people are in nursing homes since they were the first to be vaccinated (and the first to expire), so they are probably at less risk than the next batch.

Vaccination of children ages 5-11 began in France today but so far only children with health problems or special situations. One 7 year old on the news proudly announced "I have asthma and my father has a transplant!" Vaccination for the entire age group will start in January.

Some restrictions are being put back in place as of Saturday at 12:01 a.m. over fears of the new variant as cases are increasing in the province/country rapidly.
So far it will be sporting/concert/event venues being put back to 50% capacity. Masks are still mandatory in all public and retail spaces as are vaccine passports for entry into restaurants etc.
Parents will be given at home COVID test kits and a schedule of when to test their children prior to returning to school in the New Year. Test kits will also be made available to the public.
This coming Monday, the portal will open for those aged 18+ (original date was Jan. 4th) for those who have had their 2nd shot 3 months ago (previously 6 months) to book their booster shot ASAP.
They have also advised against international travel.
Boosters are being offered in multiple locations, clinics, pharmacies, doctor offices, even pop-ups in vacant shopping centre stores. A call has also gone out to all large employers to contact local Health Units to schedule clinics on site of businesses.
I have not felt this amount of urgency since we were all trying to get our 1st shot.

After masking indoors faithfully even when others weren’t, despite most businesses having signs recommending masks, today I attended my first indoor event where almost no one wore a mask, though most of us had brought masks to wear.
It was a holiday cookie exchange and bazaar put on by our art appreciation group. After not meeting for most of 2 years, we have had two meetings this fall with around 20 people, both with masks required.
But for some reason this holiday event caused all of us to drop our guards. We are all vaccinated, I think, and most are boostered, and the event held in a big room with high ceilings and no other patrons besides our group. So I hope we will all be OK.
I tried to put on a mask a couple times, but it just felt wrong in this group of friends, maybe 40 of us, with 27 staying for lunch. It seemed a lot of us had the same reaction: Normally mask indoors, brought a mask expecting to wear it, and throwing caution to the wind anyway.
Guess the holiday spirit overcame us.

Given the obvious contagiousness of the Omicron variant, that was probably a pretty reckless decision to make. Looking at the logarithmic rise in case numbers wherever Omicron is detected, we should be expecting (and even hoping for, for everyone's sake) another hard locked down winter. I hope the people who make these decisions hold fast against the irresponsible pressure to open up, "let 'er rip", and end up killing a bunch of people just so people can pretend we aren't in a once-in-a-century pandemic for an hour or two. "Holiday spirit"'s gonna plant a lot of people in the dirt I'm afraid. Being "tired of" public health measures (yeah we all are) is no reason to abandon them for purely selfish reasons.

For some reason France currently has 80 times fewer omicron cases than the UK. I'm sure it won't last, but today France decided to close down travel from the UK starting on Saturday. No more tourists or family visits, only "necessary" travel. That will shoot down a huge number of Christmas travel plans for the British who wanted to visit Paris, the Alsace Christmas markets and the ski resorts in the Alps that they love so much. French citizens (and their spouses) and residents of France (lots of retired British who bought houses in France) can continue to travel.

We attended a memorial service for a very dear old friend this past weekend. There were easily 75 persons in attendance. At the entrance to the room where visitation was held there was a large sign that read: "In honor of Barney please wear a mask". Some of the speakers at the memorial wore masks while speaking, one or two did not but I did not find it offensive as the lectern was far enough away from the attendees.
The reception afterward was held at a small restaurant with outdoor seating, so we were able to remove our masks.

Some of the speakers at the memorial wore masks while speaking, one or two did not but I did not find it offensive as the lectern was far enough away from the attendees. Honestly, I find it more, well, not offensive but annoying when lectern speakers wear a mask. They are generally over 6' from the audience and the mask just muffles their words & hides their faces unnecessarily. Thanks to My-Sister-the-Nurse and to all of you here who recommended the flu shot, I got my first ever one this morning. This was also thanks to the urging of my market friends who said I needed it "for the cold". I'd run over to the front of the market only to quickly ask a question of a young man I know who is currently selling poinsettias there. He was holding an alcohol swab to his arm & rather elaborately suffering. When I asked about it, the market ladies directed me to a nurse set up a few steps away. I didn't see any way out of it.
